Modeling nest survival of cavity‐nesting birds in relation to postfire salvage logging

The Journal of Wildlife Management, 2011
AbstractSalvage logging practices in recently burned forests often have direct effects on species associated with dead trees, particularly cavity‐nesting birds. As such, evaluation of postfire management practices on nest survival rates of cavity nesters is necessary for determining conservation strategies.

NEST MONITORING DOES NOT INCREASE NEST PREDATION IN OPEN-NESTING SONGBIRDS: INFERENCE FROM CONTINUOUS NEST-SURVIVAL DATA

The Auk, 2008
Abstract The disturbance associated with nest monitoring raises concerns about the validity of the estimated nest success and the well-being of the populations under study. Observer activity may attract or deter predators to or from bird nests, thus decreasing or increasing nest success.

Observations on Nest Site Selection, Nest Desertion, and Embryonic Survival in Marbled Salamanders

Journal of Herpetology, 1990
Data on the nesting biology of marbled salamanders (Ambystoma opacum) were obtained on 292 nests from 11 temporary pools in central North Carolina. About 6% of the nests were communal and contained eggs from two or three females. Each of the remaining nests contained a single clutch of eggs. Females placed nests primarily at moderate to high elevations

Effect of nest site on nest survival in the Dunnock Prunella modularis

1991
Nest survival and breeding success were studied in relation to nest site at 134 Dunnock nests in southern Finland. The nests were grouped according to three site categories : 1) small spruce, 2) shrub, and 3) heap of spruce twigs and branches (brush pile).
