Nest cameras do not affect nest survival in a meadow-nesting shorebird
Bird Conservation International, 2020SummaryIdentifying the fate of birds’ nests and the causes of breeding failure is often crucial for the development of conservation strategies for threatened species. However, collecting these data by repeatedly visiting nests might itself contribute to nest failure or bias. To solve this dilemma, automatic cameras have increasingly been used as a time-

Nest survival data possess two characteristics that are not fully exploited by traditional nest survival models: the data constitute a probability sample of the population and the length of time nests are observed provides information concerning age at the time of detection.

Effects of Mesopredators on Nest Survival of Shrub‐Nesting Songbirds
The Journal of Wildlife Management, 2010ABSTRACT Although nest predation is often the single largest source of mortality in avian populations, manipulative studies to determine predator impacts on nest survival are rare, particularly studies that examine impacts of mid‐size mammalian predators (hereafter, mesopredators) on nest survival of shrub ...

Effect of nest location on gopher tortoise nest survival
The Journal of Wildlife Management, 2016ABSTRACTGopher tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) populations are declining range‐wide primarily because of habitat loss, fragmentation, and degradation, but low recruitment due to nest predation also may be contributing to this decline. The relationship of nest location and nest survival is unknown.

Predation on painted turtle nests: nest survival as a function of nest age
Canadian Journal of Zoology, 1982This study examined the relationship between nest age and predation rate in painted turtles (Chrysemys picta). Eighty-one intact nests were found; 33 were eventually preyed upon during the study. New nests (less than 72 h old) do not appear to have a greater risk of predation than older nests. The majority (55%) of nests preyed upon were older than 72

Possible Effects of Nest Predation on Ground Nest Survival in the Neretva Delta (Croatia)
Avian Biology Research, 2010Nest predation experiment to survey survival probabilities of larger bodied ground-nesting birds (ducks) was carried out on Lake Kuti in May 2006. From 25 artificial ground nests on the floating reedbed islands and 25 nests on the grazed islands, 8 and 1, respectively, were depredated.

Green turtles nest survival: Quantifying the hidden predation
Marine Environmental Research, 2022Trindade Island is the largest nesting site for green turtles Chelonia mydas in Brazil and one of the most important in the Atlantic ocean. The terrestrial crab Johngarthia lagostoma forages almost everywhere on the island, including the green turtle nesting beaches. Nothing is known about crab predation on sea turtle eggs at the time of nesting.

Identifying the ecological factors shaping bird nest survival is essential for understanding bird population dynamics, as well as for conservation purposes. Using data obtained by monitoring natural bird nests in one oasis in south-eastern Tunisia, we fitted logistic exposure models to investigate the effects of nesting microhabitat, nest position and ...

Nest predators, but not nest survival, differ between adjacent urban habitats
Urban Ecosystems, 2018Growing human populations make it imperative for ecologists to identify strategies to conserve biodiversity in human-dominated landscapes, such as cities. Effects of urbanization on birds are particularly well-studied, but questions remain regarding the best conservation approaches.

NEST-SITE SELECTION AND NEST SURVIVAL OF NORTHERN BOBWHITE IN SOUTHERN TEXAS
The Wilson Journal of Ornithology, 2007Abstract We examined abiotic and biotic variables potentially associated with Northern Bobwhite (Colinus virginianus) nest-site selection and nest success in southern Texas, USA during 2002–2005. These data were used to characterize bobwhite nest-site selection, and to develop and evaluate models of daily nest survival in Program MARK.
