Changes in the transformative potential of action proposals in Finnish Red Lists from 1986 to 2019
Abstract Red lists provide critical knowledge regarding biodiversity decline, especially in Finland, where broad assessments have been made regularly since the 1980s. They deliver information on the threat status of species and ecosystems, propose actions to guide conservation policy, and have the potential to spur transformative change.

Abstract Pandemics are times of closure. States typically restrict the entry of persons to protect their national communities from external health hazards. In this regard, the COVID‐19 pandemic presented the European Union (EU) with a severe challenge. We ask to what extent the border policies of EU member states during the pandemic supported regional ...

The theory of island biogeography and the stability of oceanic reef fish communities
Abstract Reef fish assemblages on oceanic islands offer valuable insights into ecological and evolutionary processes, yet their temporal dynamics remain poorly understood. This study evaluates the theory of island biogeography (TIB) with long‐term ecological monitoring to assess how island area, isolation from nearest reef and distance from mainland ...

ABSTRACT Nestedness and Segmented Nestedness
Consider each row of a 0-1 dataset as the subset of the columns for which the row has an 1. Then a dataset is nested, if for all pairs of rows one row is either a superset or subset of the other.

Core-periphery structure in mutualistic networks: an epitaph for nestedness?
The calculation of nestedness has become a routine analysis in the study of ecological networks, as it is commonly associated with community resilience, robustness and species persistence.

Strategies for Legitimizing Regeneration in Supply Chain Fields
ABSTRACT In view of escalating environmental degradation, regenerative business has been proposed to restore social–ecological systems. However, as regeneration fundamentally departs from mainstream approaches and lacks commonly accepted standards, it suffers from a liability of newness that hampers its broader legitimation and adoption.

FALCON: nestedness statistics for bipartite networks
FALCON is a package designed to enable the analysis of nestedness and help compare different nestedness measures and associated null models in bipartite networks. This software tool is documented in the following publication: Beckett SJ, Boulton CA and

Can Personal Freedom Drive Economic Complexity?
ABSTRACT Research on economic complexity has identified various factors that enable countries to achieve higher levels of productive sophistication. However, the role of personal freedom as a distinct driver has been overlooked. This paper argues that by providing the necessary environment for individuals to explore new ideas, be creative and challenge

Aim To date, despite their great potential biogeographical regionalization models have been mostly developed on descriptive and empirical bases. This paper aims at applying the beta‐diversity framework on a statistically representative data set to ...
