Monitoring the ramp use of cage-free laying hens with deep learning technologies

open access: yesPoultry Science
Mislaid eggs are management and economic challenges in Cage-free (CF) housing systems, producing about 10-15 % floor eggs, although approximately 40 % of table egg laying hens are now in CF production systems.

Cannabis interferes with nest-building behavior in mice

open access: yesPsychopharmacology, 1978
Nest-building, a behavioral model shown to be disrupted by hallucinogens, has never been used to answer questions concerning the psychotomimetic effects of delta9-THC. Several fractions of cannabis and tobacco pyrolysis products were tested consecutively in the same procedure. The following drugs were injected i.p.

Optofluidic Raman Analysis and Capacity Recovery in Li‐ion Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Operando Raman spectroscopy is used to monitor the degradation of commercial Li‐ion cells. Using a microfluidic access port, small amounts of electrolyte are sampled into a hollow‐core optical fibre, where fibre‐enhanced Raman analysis reveals Li+ solvation changes and solvent evolution.

The High Magnetic Field Phase Diagram of a Quasi-One Dimensional Metal

open access: yes, 2000
We present a unique high magnetic field phase of the quasi-one dimensional organic conductor (TMTSF)$_2$ClO$_4$. This phase, termed "Q-ClO$_4$", is obtained by rapid thermal quenching to avoid ordering of the ClO$_4$ anion.

Asymmetry in Skipping Enhances Viability Against Control Input Noise

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Quadruped animals use asymmetric galloping gaits at high speeds, yet the functional role of this asymmetry remains unclear. This study shows that left–right asymmetry in touchdown angles enhances robustness to control noise. Using a simple two‐legged locomotion model and viability theory, it demonstrates that asymmetric skipping substantially enlarges ...
