Renormalization group flow, competing phases, and the structure of superconducting gap in multi-band models of Iron based superconductors

open access: yes, 2011
We perform an analytical renormalization group (RG) study to address the role of Coulomb repulsion, the competition between extended s-wave superconducting order (s+-) and the spin-density wave (SDW) order and the angular dependence of the ...

Asymmetry in Skipping Enhances Viability Against Control Input Noise

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Quadruped animals use asymmetric galloping gaits at high speeds, yet the functional role of this asymmetry remains unclear. This study shows that left–right asymmetry in touchdown angles enhances robustness to control noise. Using a simple two‐legged locomotion model and viability theory, it demonstrates that asymmetric skipping substantially enlarges ...

Hybrid Continuum Robot Designs and Architectures for Healthcare Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Hybrid continuum robots represent an emerging class of flexible manipulators that blend materials, structures, and actuation concepts from the established fields of soft and continuum robotics. This review introduces an accessible framework to distinguish key hybridization approaches, surveys current designs aimed at complex clinical applications, and ...

Bioinspired Soft‐Skeleton Robotics With Cooperative Shape Transformation and Stiffness Adaptation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A bioinspired soft‐skeleton robot that integrates variable‐stiffness chain skeletons into a soft textile skin is developed. The chain skeletons are highly flexible initially but can stiffen upon pneumatic actuation, enabling large deformation and enhanced load‐bearing capacity.

Nidificación del Chinchero Escamado (Lepidocolaptes falcinellus) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We provide the first description of the nest of the Scalloped Woodcreeper (Lepidocolaptes falcinellus), its clutch size, nestlings, and nesting behavior from prospecting to fledging, based on 102 h of observation at a nest in the subtropical Atlantic ...

From Lab to Landscape: Environmental Biohybrid Robotics for Ecological Futures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This Perspective explores environmental biohybrid robotics, integrating living tissues, microorganisms, and insects for operation in real‐world ecosystems. It traces the leap from laboratory experiments to forests, wetlands, and urban environments and discusses key challenges, development pathways, and opportunities for ecological monitoring and ...

Barn Swallow ( Hirundo rustica ) colony relocation in western Massachusetts

open access: yesJournal of Field Ornithology
Populations of Barn Swallows ( Hirundo rustica ) have declined throughout northeastern North America. Modern farming techniques, reduced insect prey populations caused by pesticide exposure, and mortality associated with climate changes have been ...
