Quantifying Nesting Behavior Metrics of Broiler Breeder Hens with Computationally Efficient Image Processing Algorithms and Big Data Analytics

open access: yesAgriEngineering
Nesting behaviors are important to understand facility design, resource allowance, animal welfare, and the health of broiler breeder hens. How to automatically extract informative nesting behavior metrics of broiler breeder hens remains a question.

Behavioral, morphological, and ecological trait evolution in two clades of New World Sparrows (Aimophila and Peucaea, Passerellidae) [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2020
The New World sparrows (Passerellidae) are a large, diverse group of songbirds that vary in morphology, behavior, and ecology. Thus, they are excellent for studying trait evolution in a phylogenetic framework.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Relationships Between Habitat and Snag Characteristics and the Reproductive Success of the Brown-headed Nuthatch (Sitta pusilla) in Eastern Texas. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Habitat use and reproductive success of the Brown-headed Nuthatch (Sitta pusilla Latham) were studied in East Texas during the 2001-2002 breeding seasons. We compared nest cavity selection at used and randomly selected non-used areas.

Differential regulation of ZFAS1 splice variants by endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocyte cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...

Comparative Study on Nest Density, Habitat Preference, and Nest Architecture of Tetragonula nr. pagdeni Schwarz and Tetragonula nr. shubhami Viraktamath in the Lateritic Zone of Eastern India

open access: yesSociobiology
This study documented the nest density, nesting site, and nest architecture of two poorly studied stingless bee species, Tetragonula nr. pagdeni Schwarz and Tetragonula nr. shubhami Viraktamath, from the lateritic zone of eastern India.

Using behavior indices and vital rates to determine the conservation impact of wildlife tourism: Guided sea turtle watch programs in Florida

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation, 2021
Recent rapid growth in wildlife tourism necessitates understanding its biologically-significant impacts on targeted species. To evaluate these effects, we studied how loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) responded to public sea turtle watch programs ...

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...
