Occupancy rates and nesting success of European storm-petrels breeding inside artificial nest-boxes
We report on occupancy rates and nesting success of European storm-petrels Hydrobates pelagicus breeding in artificial nest-boxes for five years. Plastic nest-boxes were installed inside two natural caves on the island of Benidorm (western Mediterranean),

Factors Affecting Nest Success of Colonial Nesting Waterbirds in Southwest Louisiana
Subsidence and accelerated sea level rise impact nesting area availability and flood probabilities of breeding islands for colonial nesting waterbirds. In 2017 and 2018, we monitored 855 nests of four species of colonial nesting waterbirds on Rabbit Island, LA, to determine factors affecting nest and chick success.

Nested Quantum Annealing Correction
We present a general error-correcting scheme for quantum annealing that allows for the encoding of a logical qubit into an arbitrarily large number of physical qubits.

Reproductive Biology of the Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas) at Tern Island, French Frigate Shoals, Hawai'i [PDF]
We monitored nesting of the green turtle (Chelonia mydas Linnaeus) on Tern Island, French Frigate Shoals, in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands from 1986 through 1991. Egg oviposition occurred between 26 April and 20 October. Nesting peaked between mid-

Nest-searching cues and studies of nest-site selection and nesting success
Abstract Locating and monitoring nests are among the most widely used approaches in studies of avian ecology, evolution, and conservation. While several papers outline “best practices” for nest studies, nest-searching techniques are seldom standardized in field investigations because observers generally use strategies that work best for them.

Sex-biased parental care and sexual size dimorphism in a provisioning arthropod [PDF]
The diverse selection pressures driving the evolution of sexual size dimorphism (SSD) have long been debated. While the balance between fecundity selection and sexual selection has received much attention, explanations based on sex-specific ecology have ...

Nesting Success of Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtles, Lepidochelys kempi, at Rancho Nuevo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, 1982–2004 [PDF]
The Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, Lepidochelys kempi, was on the edge of extinction owing to a combination of intense egg harvesting and incidental capture in commercial fishing trawls.

Several studies have suggested that significant embryo mortality is caused by microbes, while high microbial loads are generated by the decomposition of eggs broken by later nesting turtles.
