In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Comparative study on the catch efficiency and size selection of entangling nets in Lake Kainji, Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The relative catch performance and selectively of gillnets and trammel nets were investigated in 12 sampling stations in Lake Kainji, Nigeria. 3 types of nets with dimensions 50mx3m were constructed using 76mm and 178mm meshsizes for two gillnets, 76mm ...

Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs): Relevance to thrombosis and hemostasis. A narrative review

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Laboratory Medicine
Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are released by neutrophils and comprise web-like structures that play a vital role in fighting infections. NETs have also been involved in various thrombosis and hemostasis mechanisms.

Histone H2A and Bovine Neutrophil Extracellular Traps Induce Damage of Besnoitia besnoiti-Infected Host Endothelial Cells but Fail to Affect Total Parasite Proliferation

open access: yesBiology, 2019
Besnoitia besnoiti tachyzoites infect and develop in bovine endothelial cells in vivo and trigger the release of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) from bovine polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN).

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

An improved bound on the Hausdorff dimension of Besicovitch sets in $\mathbb{R}^3$

open access: yes, 2018
We prove that any Besicovitch set in $\mathbb{R}^3$ must have Hausdorff dimension at least $5/2+\epsilon_0$ for some small constant $\epsilon_0>0$. This follows from a more general result about the volume of unions of tubes that satisfy the Wolff axioms.

Diffusion nets

open access: yesApplied and Computational Harmonic Analysis, 2019
Non-linear manifold learning enables high-dimensional data analysis, but requires out-of-sample-extension methods to process new data points. In this paper, we propose a manifold learning algorithm based on deep learning to create an encoder, which maps a high-dimensional dataset and its low-dimensional embedding, and a decoder, which takes the ...
