An Efficient Network Monitor for SDN Networks
ACM SIGMETRICS Performance Evaluation Review, 2019With growing services running in clouds, it is critical to defence the services from Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. To this end, network traffic should be monitored to detect malicious traffic. Software-defined Networking (SDN) provides a flexible platform for the network monitoring and relies on a central controller to ask switches for ...

Packet Sniffers and Network Monitors
Information Systems Security, 2000Abstract Communications take place in forms that range from simple voice conversations to complicated manipulations of light. Each type of communication is based on two basic principles: wave theory and particle theory. In essence, communication can be established by the use of either, frequently in concert with a carrier or medium to provide ...

Hallway monitoring with sensor networks
Proceedings of the 7th ACM Conference on Embedded Networked Sensor Systems, 2009We present a sensor network that monitors a hallway. It consists of 180 load sensors connected to 30 wireless sensor nodes, where the setup is of extremely low cost and easily transferred to other settings. Our network serves as a testbed for in-network data processing algorithms, for which it is highly suitable due to the many correlated sensors.

Monitoring of social networking sites
2015 14th RoEduNet International Conference - Networking in Education and Research (RoEduNet NER), 2015Social networks attract more and more attention of researchers because of their growing in popularity worldwide. Furthermore, the top social networking sites have become the most frequently visited pages on the Internet. This paper aims to provide an overview of the most popular social network sites and a comparison of these.

Snow monitoring with sensor networks
29th Annual IEEE International Conference on Local Computer Networks, 2005We are engaged in the construction of a smart sensor network to monitor snow conditions and help determine avalanche probability in back country ski areas in the Wasatch mountains. These sensor networks will be comprised of devices having the ability to communicate, compute and sense the environment temperature, light intensity, pressure, and other ...

Network Monitoring with Imperfect Tests
Proceedings of the 2016 workshop on Fostering Latin-American Research in Data Communication Networks, 2016System-level Diagnosis is a long standing theory that employs tests to determine which units of a given system are {\em faulty} and {\em fault-free}. Diagnosis has been applied to network fault management, including LAN, WAN, and wireless network monitoring.

Monitoring and prediction of network performance
Proceedings of International Workshop on Advance Issues of E-Commerce and Web-Based Information Systems. (Cat. No.PR00334), 2003Analysis of network and application performance is traditionally based on mathematical models derived from first principles. Such models are usually complex, difficult to use, and do not exhibit satisfactory accuracy. This paper describes a new way of achieving high accuracy in predicting network performance.

Monitoring and debugging in networked factories
1999 European Control Conference (ECC), 1999This paper describes measurement tools, which help the troubleshooters in networked factories. The interpretation of the recordings is described subsequently. A diagnosis tool integrates the data of several measurement tools chronologically in a data base and interprets them after that.

Monitoring, i.e., the process of acquiring state information from a network or networked system, is fundamental to system operation. In traditional network and systems management, monitoring is performed on a per-device basis, whereby a centralized management entity polls the devices in its domain for information, which is then analyzed and acted upon.
