Improvements of bounds for the Sándor–Yang means

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2019
In the article, we provide new bounds for two Sándor–Yang means in terms of the arithmetic and contraharmonic means. Our results are the improvements of the previously known results.

Type curve interpretation of late-time pumping test data in randomly heterogeneous aquifers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The properties of heterogeneous media vary spatially in a manner that can seldom be described with certainty. It may, however, be possible to describe the spatial variability of these properties in terms of geostatistical parameters such as mean ...

Transport in multiscale log conductivity fields with truncated power variograms [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Di Federico and Neuman [this issue] investigated mean uniform steady state groundwater flow in an unbounded domain with log hydraulic conductivity that forms a truncated multiscale hierarchy of statistically homogeneous and isotropic Gaussian fields ...

Sharp Power Mean Bounds for Sándor Mean [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We prove that the double inequality Mp(a,b)0 with a≠b if and only if p≤1/3 and q≥log 2/(1+log 2)=0.4093…, where X(a,b) and Mr(a,b) are the Sándor and rth power means of a and b ...

Sharp Geometric Mean Bounds for Neuman Means [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We find the best possible constants α1,α2,β1,β2∈[0,1/2] and α3,α4,β3,β4∈[1/2,1] such that the double inequalities G(α1a+(1-α1)b,α1b + (1-α1)a)0 with a≠b, where G, A, and Q are, respectively, the geometric, arithmetic, and quadratic means and NAG, NGA ...

Nonlocal and localized analyses of nonreactive solute transport in bounded randomly heterogeneous porous media: Computational Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In a companion paper we presented exact (though implicit and not closed) nonlocal conditional first and second moment equations for nonreactive advective–dispersive transport under both steady state and transient flow regimes in bounded, randomly ...

Different Frontier, Same Legal Script? On the Course of Replicating Earth's Patterns in Space

open access: yesThe Modern Law Review, EarlyView.
As states and private actors expand their activities in outer space, the international legal framework governing this domain risks extending longstanding structures of global inequality beyond Earth. This article examines how international space law, shaped by a broader disciplinary pattern of reactive legal development, is poised to reproduce ...

Anisotropy, lacunarity, and upscaled conductivity and its autocovariance in multiscale random fields with truncated power variograms [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
It has been shown by Di Federico and Neuman [1997, 1998a, b] that observed multiscale behaviors of subsurface fluid flow and transport variables can be explained within the context of a unified stochastic framework, which views hydraulic conductivity as ...

Managing the Threat of Subsidized Predators for a Threatened Shorebird

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
Subsidized predators—native predators that have become more common due to human activities—challenge the persistence of many at‐risk prey species and require creative solutions beyond lethal predator control. In an 8‐year study, we placed small wire cages over western snowy plover nests that allow passage of plovers, but not their predators, and ...
