Conductive Hydrogel Electrodes for Delivery of Long-Term High Frequency Pulses

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2018
Nerve block waveforms require the passage of large amounts of electrical energy at the neural interface for extended periods of time. It is desirable that such waveforms be applied chronically, consistent with the treatment of protracted immune ...

Conductance‐Dependent Photoresponse in a Dynamic SrTiO3 Memristor for Biorealistic Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A nanoscale SrTiO3 memristor is shown to exhibit dynamic synaptic behavior through the interaction of local electrical and global optical signals. Its photoresponse depends quantitatively on the conductance state, which evolves and decays over tunable timescales, enabling ultralow‐power, biorealistic learning mechanisms for advanced in‐memory and ...

Amorphous Silicon Carbide Platform for Next Generation Penetrating Neural Interface Designs

open access: yesMicromachines, 2018
Microelectrode arrays that consistently and reliably record and stimulate neural activity under conditions of chronic implantation have so far eluded the neural interface community due to failures attributed to both biotic and abiotic mechanisms.

Trap‐Assisted Transport and Neuromorphic Plasticity in Lead‐Free 2D Perovskites PEA2SnI4

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An artificial retina built from lead‐free layered perovskite (PEA)2SnI4 converts light input into a persistent photocurrent and sums successive flashes over time. Micro/nanocrystals integrated on electrodes act as synapse‐like pixels that perform temporal integration directly in hardware. This in‐sensor preprocessing merges detection and computation on

Human voices communicating trustworthy intent: A demographically diverse speech audio dataset

open access: yesScientific Data
The multi-disciplinary field of voice perception and trustworthiness lacks accessible and diverse speech audio datasets representing diverse speaker demographics, including age, ethnicity, and sex. Existing datasets primarily feature white, younger adult

Bio‐Inspired Molecular Events in Poly(Ionic Liquids)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Originating from dipolar and polar inter‐ and intra‐chain interactions of the building blocks, the topologies and morphologies of poly(ionic liquids) (PIL) govern their nano‐ and micro‐processibility. Modulating the interactions of cation‐anion pairs with aliphatic dipolar components enables the tunability of properties, facilitated by “bottom‐up ...

Gourd‐Inspired Design of Unit Cell with Multiple Gradients for Physiological‐Range Pressure Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Gourd‐shaped micro‐dome arrays with coordinated modulus, conductivity, and geometric gradients co‐optimize sensitivity and linearity in piezoresistive tactile sensors. Under pressure, a solid upper dome embeds into a porous lower dome, triggering rapid contact‐area growth and series‐to‐parallel conduction, enabling unsaturated, intensity‐resolved ...

Biomaterials‐Based Hydrogel with Superior Bio‐Mimetic Ionic Conductivity and Tissue‐Matching Softness for Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
By mimicking the ion‐accelerating effect of ion channel receptors in neuron membranes, a biomaterials‐based ionic hydrogel (BIH) is developed, which offers a high ionic conductivity of 7.04 S m−1, outperforming conventional chitosan, cellulose, agarose, starch, and gelatin based ionic hydrogels.

Experimental Validation of a Battery-Free RFID-Powered Implantable Neural Sensor and Stimulator

open access: yesSensors
Introduction: Neurological injuries significantly impair quality of life by disrupting neural transmission. Traditional implantable stimulators often rely on internal batteries, which limit device longevity and necessitate repeated surgical interventions.
