High-frequency neural oscillations and visual processing deficits in schizophrenia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Visual information is fundamental to how we understand our environment, make predictions, and interact with others. Recent research has underscored the importance of visuo-perceptual dysfunctions for cognitive deficits and pathophysiological processes in

Synchrotron Radiation for Quantum Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Materials and interfaces underpin quantum technologies, with synchrotron and FEL methods key to understanding and optimizing them. Advances span superconducting and semiconducting qubits, 2D materials, and topological systems, where strain, defects, and interfaces govern performance.

Neural oscillators for magnetic hysteresis modeling

open access: yes, 2023
Hysteresis is a ubiquitous phenomenon in science and engineering; its modeling and identification are crucial for understanding and optimizing the behavior of various systems. We develop an ordinary differential equation-based recurrent neural network (RNN) approach to model and quantify the hysteresis, which manifests itself in sequentiality and ...

Transparent Inorganic–Organic Bilayer Neural Electrode Array and Integration to Miniscope System for In Vivo Calcium Imaging and Electrophysiology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents the BioCLEAR system, a highly transparent and conductive neural electrode array composed of silver nanowires (AgNWs) and doped PEDOT:PSS, enabling neural recordings with minimal optical artifacts. When integrated with a GRIN lens, this cost‐effective neural implant allows simultaneous electrophysiological recording and GCaMP6‐based ...

Neural Network Configurations for Filtering of Feed Stream Noise from Oscillating Continuous Microbial Fermentations [PDF]

open access: yesBioautomation, 2006
Some microbial systems exhibit sustained oscillations under certain conditions. The maintenance and the suppression of oscillations are both important in different situations.

Synchronization and desynchronization of neural oscillators [PDF]

open access: yesNeural Networks, 1999
We have used continuous and discrete-time versions of a neural oscillator model to analyze how various types of synaptic connections between oscillators affect synchronization and desynchronization phenomena. First, we present a synthesis of the mathematical properties of both neural oscillator versions.

Miniature Nanomesh Mechano‐Acoustic Sensor with Wide Linear Dynamic Range, Broad Bandwidth, and Flat Frequency Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A miniaturized mechano‐acoustic sensor is developed using an electrospun PVDF nanomesh as the diaphragm in a capacitive sensor structure. Unlike conventional nanomesh‐based sensors, it achieves high linear sensitivity, a broad and flat frequency response, and a compact form factor.

Dynamic BOLD functional connectivity in humans and its electrophysiological correlates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Neural oscillations subserve many human perceptual and cognitive operations. Accordingly, brain functional connectivity is not static in time, but fluctuates dynamically following the synchronization and desynchronization of neural populations.

The power of neural oscillations to inform sentence comprehension: A linguistic perspective

open access: yesLanguage and Linguistics Compass, 2019
The field of psycholinguistics is currently experiencing an explosion of interest in the analysis of neural oscillations - rhythmic brain activity synchronized at different temporal and spatial levels. Given that language comprehension relies on a myriad

Neural oscillations and event-related potentials reveal how semantic congruence drives long-term memory in both young and older humans

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Long-term memory can improve when incoming information is congruent with known semantic information. This so-called congruence effect has widely been shown in younger adults, but age-related changes and neural mechanisms remain unclear.
