Auditory Neural Pathway Simulation
2017 IEEE International Conference on Rebooting Computing (ICRC), 2017We describe an effort to simulate the neural pathway from the inner ear (cochlea) to the primary auditory cortex in the brain. The human cochlea contains sensory cells (inner hair cells), which respond to the mechanical motion of traveling waves that sweep along the basilar membrane.

The Amygdala and the Neural Pathways of Fear
2009Fear and anxiety are evolutionarily developed responses to perceived or anticipated threat. They involve behavioral, autonomic, and endocrine alterations aimed at increasing an organism's chances of survival. Excessive or uncontrolled fear and anxiety may lead to anxiety disorders.

Neural pathways of social cognition
2012AbstractThis article reviews recent ideas about visual pathways and mechanisms in the brains of human and non-human primates that support social cognition. It shows how the detection of visual cues provides a basis for guiding the observer's behaviour in ways that are based on the current and likely future behaviour of others.

Dissecting circuit mechanisms by genetic manipulation of specific neural pathways
Reviews in the Neurosciences, 2013The major issue in neuroscience is to delineate the structure and function of the neural circuits that mediate a variety of brain functions. One useful approach to resolve this issue is the genetic manipulation of the activity of specific neural circuits,

Neural Pathways of Embodied Simulation
2009Simulation theories have in recent years proposed that a cognitive agent's "inner world" can at least partly be constituted by internal emulations or simulations of its sensorimotor interaction with the world, i.e. covert perception and action. This paper further integrates simulation theory with the notion of the brain as a predictive machine.

Variations on the Notch pathway in neural development
Current Opinion in Neurobiology, 2002Notch signaling allows cells in contact to adopt different fates. Regulation of the Notch pathway allows for the same signaling mechanism to be used in a wide variety of contexts during development. Intracellular activities of the E3 ubiquitin ligases Sel-10 and Neuralized involve proteasome-dependent degradation in the regulation of Notch pathway ...

MicroRNA pathways in neural development and plasticity
Current Opinion in Neurobiology, 2010MicroRNAs contribute significantly to the development, survival, function, and plasticity of neurons. They silence expression of target genes by reducing mRNA stability and translation. Production of microRNAs is controlled via developmental and environmental cues and these small molecules, in concert with classical transcriptional regulators, amplify ...

Introduction to Anatomy and Neural Pathways
American Orthoptic Journal, 2005This review of the anatomy and neural pathways of motility has focused on the supranuclear pathways for eye movement, because these are the pathways that are responsible for misalignments that are ...

Neural pathways mediating septal hyperreactivity
Physiology & Behavior, 1976Abstract Cuts were made at various positions around the septum to interrupt septal connections with other structures. The effect of these cuts on reactivity was examined 2, 7, and 14 days postoperatively. Animals with anterior or lateral cuts scored significantly higher than control animals on each of the test days.

Establishment of Pathways in the Developing Neural System
1996For studying neural development, the chick embryo offers distinct advantages compared to other vertebrate models. The first is the accessibility of the embryos, which survive extensive manipulations in ovo. For example, it has been shown that axons in developing chick limb nerves generally follow stereotyped pathways which are predetermined by the limb
