Programmable active pixel sensor to investigate neural interactions within the retina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Detection of the visual scene by the eye and the resultant neural interactions of the retina-brain system give us our perception of sight. We have developed an Active Pixel Sensor (APS) to be used as a tool for both furthering understanding of these ...

Metaheuristic Optimisation Algorithms for Tuning a Bioinspired Retinal Model

open access: yesSensors, 2019
A significant challenge in neuroscience is understanding how visual information is encoded in the retina. Such knowledge is extremely important for the purpose of designing bioinspired sensors and artificial retinal systems that will, in so far as may be

Large-scale multielectrode recording and stimulation of neural activity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Large circuits of neurons are employed by the brain to encode and process information. How this encoding and processing is carried out is one of the central questions in neuroscience.

Use of accelerometers in the control of practical prosthetic arms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Accelerometers can be used to augment the control of powered prosthetic arms. They can detect the orientation of the joint and limb and the controller can correct for the amount of torque required to move the limb.

Artifact‐Minimizing Ultrathin Transparent Electrodes Fabricated via iCVD for In Vivo Optogenetic Stimulation and Neural Signal Monitoring of Primary Visual Cortex

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present ultrathin flexible transparent electrodes through iCVD‐enabled molecular control of 10 nm gold films on poly(dimethylaminomethylstyrene). In vivo validation demonstrated photoelectric artifact reduction vs. opaque electrodes and preservation of natural neural dynamics.

Within-socket Myoelectric Prediction of Continuous Ankle Kinematics for Control of a Powered Transtibial Prosthesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Objective. Powered robotic prostheses create a need for natural-feeling user interfaces and robust control schemes. Here, we examined the ability of a nonlinear autoregressive model to continuously map the kinematics of a transtibial prosthesis and ...
