Neurobiology Select

open access: yes, 2008
Migration of neurons is crucial for brain development. Equally essential to this developmental process is the specific transport of proteins within the neuron for axonal and dendritic specification.

Neuroscience in Psychiatry towards an integrative and personalized medicine in the DSM-V: a proposal

open access: yesCuadernos de Neuropsicología, 2009
In the last Century the concept of health and, with it, medical science, has suffered a profound, conceptual and ontological change. However, this revolution has not reached, in the same way the field of mental health. In the next pages it will be shown,

The neurobiology of language beyond single-word processing

open access: yesScience, 2019
In this Review, I propose a multiple-network view for the neurobiological basis of distinctly human language skills. A much more complex picture of interacting brain areas emerges than in the classical neurobiological model of language.

Piezo2 Mediates a Vicious Cycle of “Mechanical Homeostasis Imbalance—Inflammation” in Sensory Nerves and the Cartilage Endplate

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In a lumbar spine instability model, dorsal root ganglion cells mediate the perception of relevant mechanical stresses through Piezo2 and subsequently release CGRP. CGRP activates the NF‐κB signaling pathway in cartilage endplate cells through the receptor RAMP1.

The Neurobiology of Transference

open access: yes, 2013
Understanding transference in terms of neurobiological mechanisms has been an area of interest throughout the last decade. The newly developed methods of neuroscience, such as neuroimaging and molecular neurobiology, help explain a neurobiological base ...

Neurobiology Select

open access: yes, 2006
Studying the molecular mechanisms that make the senses respond precisely to external stimuli continues to generate surprising results. This issue's Neurobiology Select discusses studies of the five senses that reveal new insights into protein function ...

Temporal and Cell‐Specific Regulation of Synaptic Homeostasis by the Chromatin Remodeler Chd1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chd1, the Drosophila homologue of mammalian CHD2 ‐ a gene linked to autism, epilepsy, and intellectual disability, is required for synaptic homeostatic plasticity. Chd1 in glia is necessary for the rapid induction of synaptic homeostasis, whereas Chd1 in motoneurons, muscle, and glia is critical for long‐term maintenance.

ERK‐Mediated Phosphorylation of YAP Defines a Noncanonical FGF Signaling Mechanism in Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
With a powerful combination of in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro models, the authors highlight a novel FGF‐ERK signaling regulation of YAP at the S128 site in neural crest‐derived stem cells. This study opens exciting new directions in stem cell biology and craniofacial biology, paving the way for potential innovations in the treatment of craniofacial ...

Neurobiology of fibromyalgia and chronic widespread pain

open access: yesNeuroscience, 2016
Fibromyalgia is the current term for chronic widespread musculoskeletal pain for which no alternative cause can be identified. The underlying mechanisms, in both human and animal studies, for the continued pain in individuals with fibromyalgia will be ...
