Microbiota-gut-brain axis in perioperative neurocognitive and depressive disorders: Pathogenesis to treatment

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease
An increasing number of people undergo anesthesia and surgery. Perioperative neurocognitive and depressive disorders are common central nervous system complications with similar pathogeneses. These conditions pose a deleterious threat to human health and

The Effect of Sleep Deprivation on the Vestibulo‐Ocular Reflex and Vestibular Adaptation in Healthcare Night‐Shift Workers

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This study examined the effects of sleep deprivation on the vestibulo‐ocular reflex (VOR) in healthcare night‐shift workers. Results showed a significant reduction in VOR gain (7.5%) during passive head movements toward far targets after a night shift, whereas other VOR functions and gaze stability remained unaffected.

A discontinuous Galerkin method for the three-dimensional heterodimer model with application to prion-like proteins' dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Neurocognitive disorders, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, have a wide social impact. These proteinopathies involve misfolded proteins accumulating into neurotoxic aggregates. Mathematical and computational models describing the prion-like dynamics offer an analytical basis to study the diseases' evolution and a computational framework for ...

Apolipoprotein E (APOE) Genotype and Cognitive Outcomes of Snoring in a Large Cohort of Adolescents

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This study examined the relationship between the APOE genotype, snoring, and cognitive performance in adolescents using data from the ABCD study. The results indicated no significant interaction effects between the APOE genotype, snoring frequency, and time on cognitive outcomes. Therefore, the APOE genotype may not be a reliable predictor of cognitive

EEG-MACS: Manifold Attention and Confidence Stratification for EEG-based Cross-Center Brain Disease Diagnosis under Unreliable Annotations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Cross-center data heterogeneity and annotation unreliability significantly challenge the intelligent diagnosis of diseases using brain signals. A notable example is the EEG-based diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases, which features subtler abnormal neural dynamics typically observed in small-group settings.
