Preoperative Aortic Calcification Volume Predicts Postoperative Complications in Nonpancreatic Cancer Patients Undergoing Pancreaticoduodenectomy

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Postoperative complications following pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) remain high, particularly in patients with soft pancreatic texture. Abdominal aortic calcification volume (AACV), a surrogate marker of systemic arteriosclerosis, has been associated with increased surgical risk in lower gastrointestinal procedures ...

Short Distal Resection Margin Does Not Increase Recurrence Risk After R0 Resection for Rectal Neuroendocrine Tumors: A Single‐Institution Retrospective Study of 208 Patients

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This study evaluated the impact of distal resection margin (DRM) length on recurrence in 208 patients undergoing surgery for rectal neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). Our findings demonstrate that while oncological safety must unquestionably remain the top priority, a short pathological DRM (< 10 mm) does not increase recurrence risk when R0 resection is ...

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis As A Paraneoplastic Manifestation in the Neuroendocrine Tumor of Stomach: A Case Report

open access: yesActa Medica Iranica, 2013
Motor neuron diseases have been reported as a rare paraneoplastic syndrome (PNS) of a systemic neoplasm. We present a patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in association with neuroendocrine tumor (NET) of stomach, which is the first case of ...

Detection rate of FNA cytology in medullary thyroid carcinoma. a meta-analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: The early detection of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) can improve patient prognosis, because histological stage and patient age at diagnosis are highly relevant prognostic factors. As a consequence, delay in the diagnosis and/or incomplete

Functional Advantage of Central Pancreatectomy Over Distal Pancreatectomy for Benign or Low‐Grade Malignant Tumors: A Comparative Analysis Based on 75‐g Oral Glucose Tolerance Test

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Central pancreatectomy (CP) better preserves postoperative pancreatic endocrine function than distal pancreatectomy for benign or low‐grade malignant tumors. The 75‐g oral glucose tolerance test demonstrated that CP maintained insulin secretion and glucose tolerance, highlighting its clinical advantage as a function‐preserving procedure.

Prognostic Significance of Portal Vein Tumor Thrombus in Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma Treated With Chemoradiotherapy

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim To examine the significance of portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) as a prognostic factor for patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) treated with chemoradiotherapy (CRT) followed by surgery. Methods The study retrospectively examined 313 patients with borderline resectable (BR) or locally advanced (LA) PDAC who underwent CRT ...

Heat Stress and Gut Microbiome Dynamics in Poultry: Interplay, Consequences, and Mitigation Strategies

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Heat stress disrupts gut microbial balance in poultry, impairing nutrient absorption and immunity. This review outlines the interplay between thermal stress and microbiome dynamics and discusses integrative mitigation strategies, probiotics, phytogenics, cooling systems, and genetic adaptation to enhance poultry resilience.
