Brain and Lung: Lung Injury in Patients with Brain Injury [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neurocritical Care, 2017
Neurocritically ill patients are at an increased risk of other organ dysfunctions, especially lung injury. Major pulmonary complications, including acute respiratory distress syndrome, ventilator-associated pneumonia, and neurogenic pulmonary edema, are ...

Ultrasound Activated Piezoelectric Dural Patches to Drive Endogenous Neural Stem Cell–Mediated Repair Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 27, 13 May 2026.
This study presents a wireless, non‐invasive strategy for neural repair by developing a biodegradable piezoelectric dural patch that, under transcranial ultrasound, generates localized electrical fields to drive endogenous neural stem cells toward neuronal differentiation and functional integration.

Myasthenia Gravis With Chronic Kidney Disease: A Diagnostic Challenge

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT The coexistence of myasthenia gravis (MG) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) presents a diagnostic challenge due to overlapping clinical features. MG is an autoimmune neuromuscular junction disorder, whereas CKD exhibits the gradual loss of kidney function.

Role of P2X purinoceptor 7 in neurogenic pulmonary edema after subarachnoid hemorrhage in rats. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
INTRODUCTION: Neurogenic pulmonary edema (NPE) is an acute and serious complication after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) with high mortality. The present study aimed to test the therapeutic potential of brilliant blue G (BBG), a selective P2X purinoceptor

2025 Consensus Clinical Management Guidelines for Niemann‐Pick Disease Type C

open access: yesJournal of Inherited Metabolic Disease, Volume 49, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT In 2018, the International Niemann‐Pick Disease Alliance (INPDA) and the International Niemann‐Pick Disease Registry (INPDR) developed and published comprehensive clinical management guidelines to support inclusive and standardized care pathways in Niemann‐Pick disease type C (NPC)—an ultra‐rare, autosomal recessive, neurovisceral lysosomal ...

Pantothenic Acid Protects Neurons After Ischemic Stroke by Targeting ID3 to Restore Action Potential Amplitude

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience Research, Volume 104, Issue 5, May 2026.
Ischemic stroke reduces ID3 expression and impairs neuronal action potential amplitude and frequency. Pantothenic acid (PA) targets and upregulates ID3, restoring amplitude but not frequency. The PA‐ID3‐amplitude axis represents a potential neuroprotective strategy.

An Australian standard of care for Niemann–Pick disease type C

open access: yesInternal Medicine Journal, Volume 56, Issue 5, Page 832-848, May 2026.
Abstract Background Niemann–Pick disease type C (NP‐C) is the fifth most prevalent lysosomal disorder in Australia. Diagnostic delay is common, impacted by disease heterogeneity, limited awareness within clinical gateway services and exclusion from state‐based newborn screening programmes.
