Nitrosative stress indices in dogs with neurological form of canine distemper.
Iranian journal of veterinary research, 2018This is a prospective, controlled, randomized clinical study to evidence the role of nitrosative stress in development of overt neurological sign of canine distemper (CD). The enrollment of cases wasa made on basis of overt sign of CD (n=139) and the findings were compared with apparently healthy dogs (n=15). The CD specific immunoglobulins resulted in

Induction of chronic neurologic disease in mice with canine distemper virus
Neurology, 1980The capacity of a mouse-adapted strain of canine distemper virus (CDV) to induce central nervous system (CNS) disease in weanling mice was investigated. Lethality of infection was found to be mouse-strain-dependent. In sensitive strains, an acute meningoencephalomyelitis developed.

In dogs with neurological disturbances without myoclonus and extraneural signs, the clinical diagnosis of distemper is difficult perform. Considering the great infectious potential of the disease, the possibility of carrying out an antemortem diagnosis of distemper is important, particularly in hospitalized patients with neurological disease.

Abstract Immunoprecipitation of the polypeptides of canine distemper virus (CDV) from lysates of infected cells has revealed that the serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of dogs with chronic distemper and old dog encephalitis contain high levels of antibody to all the viral structural polypeptides, indicating that all of these polypeptides are being ...

Neurological signs in juvenile harbour seals ( Phoca vitulina ) with fatal phocine distemper
Veterinary Record, 2009In 2002, the northern European harbour seal ( Phoca vitulina ) population experienced an epidemic of phocine distemper virus (PDV) in which 22,000 seals died. Clinical signs were recorded in 20 harbour seal pups admitted to the Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre with clinical disease ...

Background Distemper is a viral multisystem disease that affects dogs of all ages. So far, there are only palliative treatments and the consequence of the disease is decreasing the quality of life of the animals and in more severe cases is euthanasia.

In situ hybridization studies have been carried out on brain samples from eight cases of multiple sclerosis (MS) and 56 non-neurological and neurological controls, using single-stranded 35S-labelled RNA probes prepared against genomic RNA sequences of measles virus, canine distemper virus, rubella virus and simian virus 5.

We describe the antibody responses to three strains of canine distemper virus (CDV) isolated from dogs with chronic neurological disease in the Los Angeles area using the naturally occurring sera and cerebrospinal fluids (CSFs) of these animals as probes for comparison. CDV/CDE-2 was derived from a dog with chronic distemper encephalitis, and CDV/ODE-8
