Cognitive challenges, aging, and neuromuscular fatigue
Physiology & Behavior, 2017Cognitive challenges, such as concurrent cognitive demands or prior cognitive fatigue, have shown to adversely impact neuromuscular fatigue, specifically in younger adults. Whether these relationships are similar for the aging population remains unclear.

Assessment and Management of Fatigue in Neuromuscular Disease
American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Medicine®, 2010Fatigue is a common and potentially debilitating symptom of neuromuscular disease (NMD). Studies show that patients with NMD subjectively report increased levels of fatigue. Laboratory testing has demonstrated that patients with NMD show objective physiological signs of increased fatigue, with both central and peripheral components.

The origins of neuromuscular fatigue post-stroke
Experimental Brain Research, 2011Fatigue post-stroke is a disabling and persistent symptom affecting many stroke survivors. Despite its high prevalence, the pathophysiology underlying this phenomenon remains obscure. The aim of the present study was to investigate the origins of neuromuscular fatigue post-stroke.

Approaching Fatigue in Neuromuscular Diseases
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinics of North America, 2005Fatigue is common in many neurologic and nonneurologic conditions, such as neuromuscular diseases, multiple sclerosis, depression, renal failure, pulmonary diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. Fatigue also is common in healthy subjects. In one study, 18% of normal healthy controls complained of fatigue.

Impact of stimulation frequency on neuromuscular fatigue
European Journal of Applied Physiology, 2019The aim of the present study was to examine the frequency effects (20 Hz and 100 Hz) on neuromuscular fatigue using stimulation parameters favoring an indirect motor unit recruitment through the afferent pathway.Nineteen subjects were divided into two groups: 20 Hz (n = 10) and 100 Hz (n = 9).

An examination of neuromuscular and metabolic fatigue thresholds
Physiological Measurement, 2013This study examined the relationships among the physical working capacity at the fatigue threshold (PWCFT), the power outputs associated with the gas exchange threshold (PGET) and the respiratory compensation point (PRCP), and critical power (CP) to identify possible physiological mechanisms underlying the onset of neuromuscular fatigue.
