ABSTRACT Nitrooxidative stress, driven by excess reactive nitrogen species like peroxynitrite, contributes to the pathogenesis of many chronic diseases. Among its molecular footprints, 3‐nitrotyrosine (3NT) has emerged as a biologically relevant marker of protein nitration.

Serum Neuron-specific Enolase Levels in Preterm and Term Newborns and in Infants 1–3 Months of Age
Elevated serum levels of neuron-specific enolase (NSE) was initially assumed to be specific to neuronal tumors (particularly neuroblastoma), but is now known to accompany nontumoral conditions and tumors other than neuroblastomas.

Plasma REST: a novel candidate biomarker of Alzheimer's disease is modified by psychological intervention in an at-risk population. [PDF]
The repressor element 1-silencing transcription (REST) factor is a key regulator of the aging brain's stress response. It is reduced in conditions of stress and Alzheimer's disease (AD), which suggests that increasing REST may be neuroprotective.

Ion Activation Methods for Top‐Down Proteomics
ABSTRACT Mass spectrometry (MS) has emerged as a premier method used to characterize the sequences of proteins. Top‐down proteomics aims to capture the multiple sources of structural diversity reflected in proteins, such as those that arise from alternative RNA splicing events or the addition of post‐translational modifications. Tandem MS (i.e., MS/MS)

Melanoma-associated adhesion molecule MUC18/MCAM (CD146) and transcriptional regulator Mader in normal human CNS [PDF]
The proteins MUC18 and Mader have been identified as markers of tumor progression in melanoma cells, MUC18, also known as MCAM (melanoma cell adhesion molecule) and as CD146 (endothelial antigen), is a cell adhesion molecule belonging to the ...

Tau-crystallin/alpha-enolase: one gene encodes both an enzyme and a lens structural protein. [PDF]
tau-Crystallin has been a major component of the cellular lenses of species throughout vertebrate evolution, from lamprey to birds. Immunofluorescence analysis of the embryonic turtle lens, using antiserum to lamprey tau-crystallin showed that the ...

SPROUTS_DB: An Implemented Database of Contaminants for Extracellular Vesicle Proteomics Studies
ABSTRACT Current proteomics techniques allow rapid identification and quantification of proteins within any given biological source. However, LC–MS/MS proteomics is vulnerable to laboratory and sample‐associated contaminants. Therefore, accurate identification and annotation of such contaminants is crucial for development of reliable databases ...

Rapid generation of prion disease models using AAV‐delivered PrP variants in knockout mice
We developed a rapid AAV‐based system to generate prion disease models in weeks rather than months. Following systemic AAV9P31 delivery of modified PrP to knockout mice, we achieved brain‐wide expression and successful propagation of both classical (RML) and atypical (GSS‐A117V) prion strains.
