Chain Migration of Neuronal Precursors
Science, 1996In the brain of adult mice, cells that divide in the subventricular zone of the lateral ventricle migrate up to 5 millimeters to the olfactory bulb where they differentiate into neurons. These migrating cells were found to move as chains through a well-defined pathway, the rostral migratory stream.

Neuronal Migration Disorders in Man
European Journal of Morphology, 2000A classification of neuronal migration disorders based on the gross morphology of the disorder with subclassifications according to the cause of the underlying disorder as far as that is known is presented. Emphasis is on disorders of the neocortex.

The JNK Pathway and Neuronal Migration
Journal of Genetics and Genomics, 2007The c-Jun N-terminal kinases (JNKs) are important regulators of a variety of physiological and pathological processes both in the central and in the peripheral nervous systems. JNKs are considered as crucial mediators of neuronal cell death in response to stress and injury. However, recent studies have provided substantial evidence that the JNK pathway

Abstract During the development of the mammalian central nervous system (CNS), neurons are commonly generated at sites far from their final locations. They migrate to an anlage before differentiating into their final morphology and making synaptic connections.

Kallmann’s syndrome, a neuronal migration defect
Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2006Infertility and inability to smell are the phenotypical features of Kallmann's syndrome (KS), a genetic disease which affects 1 in 10,000 males and 1 in 50,000 females, the majority of the cases being sporadic. The molecular pathogenesis of KS is complex but mainly referable to the impairment of olfactory axon development and of the migration of ...

The Impact of JNK on Neuronal Migration
2013Incorrect placement of nerve cells during brain development leaves us at risk of diseases and conditions ranging from epilepsy and mental retardation to schizophrenia and dyslexia. The developing brain produces cells at an impressive rate, with up to 250,000 new cells generated every minute.

New Directions in Neuronal Migration
Science, 2002Over the past decade, genetic analyses have yielded a more molecular view of neuronal migration and its role in central nervous system development. We now realize that many of the molecular mechanisms that guide migrations in invertebrates are recapitulated in the vertebrate nervous system.
