NEUROPATOLOGIAS DA DEMÊNCIA: DESCRIÇÃO E CARACTERIZAÇÃO

open access: yesJournal Health and Technology - JHT, 2022

Principles for Dendritic Spine Size and Density in Human and Mouse Cortical Pyramidal Neurons

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 533, Issue 6, June 2025.
The main building blocks of the cerebral cortex, the pyramidal neurons, show characteristic spine morphologies across brain regions and species, although there does appear to be a conserved cortical dendritic spine size‐density balance. ABSTRACT Dendritic spines of pyramidal neurons are the targets of most excitatory synapses in the cerebral cortex ...

Intracellular Mg2+ concentrations are differentially regulated in the sperm head and mid‐piece in acrosome reaction inducing conditions

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 38, Issue 21, 15 November 2024.
Because Mg2+ complexes with ATP, changes in intracellular Mg2+ ([Mg2+]i), monitored with Mag‐520, reflect, in part, ATP levels. Mag‐520 allows the concomitant detection of [Mg2+]i and [Ca2+]i. [Mg2+]i increases under two conditions that reduce ATP: starvation and capacitation. Conversely, nutrient addition to starved sperm decrease Mag‐520 fluorescence.

Extended genome‐wide association study employing the African genome resources panel identifies novel susceptibility loci for Alzheimer's disease in individuals of African ancestry

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 20, Issue 8, Page 5247-5261, August 2024.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Despite a two‐fold risk, individuals of African ancestry have been underrepresented in Alzheimer's disease (AD) genomics efforts. METHODS Genome‐wide association studies (GWAS) of 2,903 AD cases and 6,265 controls of African ancestry. Within‐dataset results were meta‐analyzed, followed by functional genomics analyses.
