Potential Utility of Neurosonology in Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation Detection in Patients with Cryptogenic Stroke

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Medicine, 2019
Background: Occult paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) is a common and potential treatable cause of cryptogenic stroke (CS). We sought to prospectively identify independent predictors of atrial fibrillation (AF) detection in patients with CS and sinus ...

Neurosonology

Neurologic Clinics, 2009
Transcranial Doppler (TCD) is called the "doctor's stethoscope for the brain," and the use of TCD with portable carotid and vertebral duplex scanning provides structural and physiologic imaging extension of the neurologic examination. Ultrasound expands the ability of clinicians to detect, localize, and quantify disease and to evaluate hemodynamic ...

The Role of Neurosonology in the Diagnosis and Management of Patients with Carotid Artery Disease: A Review

open access: yesJournal of Neuroimaging, 2018
Carotid artery disease (CAD) is a common cause of ischemic stroke with high rates of recurrence. Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) or carotid artery stenting (CAS) are highly recommended for the secondary prevention of symptomatic CAD during the first 14 days

Neurosonology in Croatia

2003
Carotid and vertebral artery ultrasound, as well as transcranial Doppler ultrasound in neurosonology, has a long tradition in Croatia for diagnostic purposes. The first neurosonology laboratory was founded in Zagreb in the mid seventies, when continous-wave Doppler was used for analysis of the carotid bifurcation.

Manual of Neurosonology

2016
Neurosonology is non-invasive, portable, and has excellent temporal resolution, making it a valuable and increasingly popular tool for the diagnosis and monitoring of neurological conditions when compared to other imaging techniques. This guide looks beyond the use of neurovascular ultrasound in stroke to encompass a wide range of other neurological ...

Neurosonology

1998
Ultrasound studies are routinely performed in stroke centers. They include both extracranial and intracranial noninvasive cerebrovascular evaluation. Extracranial color and power Doppler enables information of noninvasive carotid and vertebral artery testing.
