Establishment of a novel cynomolgus monkey model of hyperuricemia

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
We established a novel hyperuricemia model in cynomolgus monkeys (A) via oral administration of potassium oxonate, hydrochlorothiazide, and adenine mixed in fruits and vegetables. This model (B) targets uric acid synthesis and enzymatic degradation, and (C) regulates renal and intestinal excretion, thereby stably elevating serum uric acid and serving ...

Vascular Compression of Medulla Oblongata by Non-Dolichoectatic Vertebral Artery

open access: yesIndian Journal of Neurosurgery
Neurovascular conflicts are common in the posterior fossa and basal cisterns due to coexistence of important neural and vascular structures. Neurovascular conflict arising from compression of the cranial nerves by pulsatile flow in the adjacent ...

Source‐dependent variability in gut barrier disruption, bacterial translocation, and immune activation after ischemic stroke in Wistar rats

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
RjHan‐Wistar rats show smaller infarcts but higher bacterial translocation, greater gut barrier damage, and stronger immune responses. In contrast, RccHan‐Wistar rats have larger infarcts with lower bacterial spread, reduced gut damage, and weaker immune activation.

Navigating the neurovascular maze of trigeminal neuralgia

open access: yesRadiology Case Reports
Tic douloureux, also known as trigeminal neuralgia, is distinguished by recurrent episodes of severe, lancinating pain that affects one or more branches of the trigeminal nerve, representing a prevalent pain syndrome.

Clinical characteristics of pain in patients with trigeminal neuralgia: data from a neurosurgical clinic

open access: yesУкраїнська Інтервенційна Нейрорадіологія та Хірургія, 2023
Among the pain syndromes caused by damage to cranial nerves, trigeminal nerve pathology occupies the main place. Trigeminal neuralgia is an exhausting condition characterized by acute shooting recurrent pain in the face.

Don't cancel the surgery just yet! A case report of positive preoperative pregnancy test due to a soft tissue sarcoma production of ectopic beta human chorionic gonadotropin. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Soft tissue sarcomas are a rare group of mesenchymal malignancies which can range from low to high grade. These tumors have different clinical, radiographic, and histopathological characteristics. Beta human chorionic gonadotropin is a naturally secreted

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Frontotemporal Dementia Have Distinct Prediagnostic Blood Biochemical Profiles

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Identifying modifiable factors influencing amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) risk is important for prevention. Blood biomarkers, particularly cholesterol, have been associated with neurodegenerative risk, but findings in ALS are inconsistent, and data on FTD are limited.

Trigeminal neuralgia at the present stage: Pathophysiology, classification, diagnosis and treatment (literature review)

open access: yesActa Biomedica Scientifica
The incidence of trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is 4–5 cases per 100,000 population per year, and the prevalence is about 20–50 cases per 100,000 population.

The Neuroanatomic Basis of the Acupuncture Principal Meridians [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Acupuncture involves treating illness by inserting needles at specified body locations (acupoints). The Principal meridians are pathways that join acupoints with related physiologic effects.
