Negative skin friction and the neutral plane

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 1994
Current views indicate that negative skin friction on piles can be mobilized at small relative deformations and should be considered in all designs, primarily for serviceability conditions. An elastic-plastic closed-form solution is presented that permits an estimate of down-drag forces and the location of the neutral plane.

Free Segments of a Neutral Plane (FSEG)

, 2015
Free segments are defined as congruence classes of segments; these are ordered in a natural way, and this ordering is shown to be transitive and to have the trichotomy property. Addition of free segments is defined, and its elementary properties and interactions with ordering are studied.

Estimation of Neutral Plane Position in High Rise Buildings

Journal of Fire Sciences, 1996
This paper presents a simple method for calculation of the pressure distribution and the neutral plane position in a high rise building. Non-uniform temperature distributions in the stairshaft of the building and discrete door openings are taken into account.

Development of Neutral Plane on a Pile in a Consolidating Ground

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2010
When a pile is installed in a layer of soft and compressible soil, the pile would be subjected to skin friction as the consequence of the relative settlements between the soil and the pile. Negative skin friction (NSF) is mobilized when soil settles more than the pile while positive skin friction (PSF) occurs vice versa.

Folding stabilities of encapsulation layers at positions off the mechanical neutral plane

Applied Physics Express, 2018
The folding stabilities of an inorganic single layer and an organic–inorganic multilayer based on the degree of deviation from the neutral plane were investigated for the application of the encapsulation layer to foldable organic light-emitting diodes ...
