The CVS-11 strain of rabies virus was shown to interfere with plaque formation by vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) in a continuous line of monkey kidney cells (V3). Interference was inhibited by rabies antibody and an interference inhibition test (IIT) was devised to titrate rabies neutralizing antibody in 94 human sera.

Adaptations of neutrality tests [PDF]
Most of the genetic variation observed within a biological species is generally thought to be evolutionary “neutral” in the sense that it is irrelevant for an individuum whether its genome contains one particular variant or another. Evolutionary biologists, and in the case of the human species anthropologists and medical scientists as well, are by ...

Virus Neutralization Test in a Capillary Tube
Science, 1962A simple and accurate virus titration method which requires extremely low numbers of cells per test vessel is described. Inhibition of metabolism was the criterion for 50 percent end point analysis when capillary tubing was used as the cell culture container. Virus neutralization titers were obtained within 24 hours.

A test of the unified neutral theory of biodiversity
Nature, 2003One of the fundamental questions of ecology is what controls biodiversity. Recent theory suggests that biodiversity is controlled predominantly by neutral drift of species abundances. This theory has generated considerable controversy, because it claims that many mechanisms that have long been studied by ecologists (such as niches) have little ...

Interpreters at War: Testing Boundaries of Neutrality
2019This chapter aims to explore the distinctive attitudes and narratives of interpreters in conflict zones, whose role is no longer seen as a fixed notion as they adjust their positioning along a spectrum from invisibility to advocacy. In this context, we will explore the extent to which institutional and professional boundaries have been challenged, and ...
