The neutron is largely spherical and incompressible in atomic nuclei. These two properties are however challenged in the extreme pressure environment of a neutron star. Our variational computation within the Cornell model of Coulomb gauge QCD shows that the neutron (and also the Δ3/2 baryon) can adopt cubic symmetry at an energy cost of about 150 MeV.

Neutron-neutron and neutron-photon correlations withFREYA [PDF]
For many years, the state of the art for modeling fission in radiation transport codes has involved sampling from average distributions. However, in a true fission event, the energies, momenta and multiplicities of emitted particles are correlated. The FREYA (Fission Reaction Event Yield Algorithm) code generates complete fission events. Event-by-event

Search for Neutron-to-Hidden-Neutron Oscillations in an Ultracold Neutron Beam
Models that postulate the existence of hidden sectors address contemporary questions, such as the source of baryogenesis and the nature of dark matter. Among the possible mixing processes, neutron-to-hidden-neutron oscillations have been repeatedly tested with ultra-cold neutron storage and passing-through-wall experiments in the range of small ($δm<

THERMAL SCATTERING LAW ENDF LIBRARIES FOR LIQUID FLIBE [PDF]
Several advanced nuclear reactor concepts have been proposed in the past few years where FLiBe molten salt represents a major constituent of the core. In this case, neutrons produced in fission slow down and moderate in FLiBe (a eutectic with a mixture ...

High-Efficiency Resonant RF Spin Rotator with Broad Phase Space Acceptance for Pulsed Polarized Cold Neutron Beams [PDF]
We have developed a radio-frequency resonant spin rotator to reverse the neutron polarization in a 9.5 cm x 9.5 cm pulsed cold neutron beam with high efficiency over a broad cold neutron energy range. The effect of the spin reversal by the rotator on the

Neutron lifetime puzzle and neutron–mirror neutron oscillation [PDF]
The discrepancy between the neutron lifetimes measured in the beam and trap experiments can be explained via the neutron $n$ conversion into mirror neutron $n'$, its dark partner from parallel mirror sector, provided that $n$ and $n'$ have a tiny mass splitting order $10^{-7}$ eV.

Phonons and Thermal Expansion Behavior of NiSi and NiGe
We have carried out first principles calculations of the vibrational and thermodynamic behavior in NiSi and isostructural compound NiGe. Phonon density of states has also been measured in NiSi using inelastic neutron scattering techniques.
