A simple fast neutron detector suitable for health physics applications has been constructed using two 931A photo-multiplier tubes in coincidence to reduce background. A ``sandwich'' made of Lucite and activated zinc sulfide is used to produce the scintillations.

Study of a NaIL-detector as a neutron detector
2023Within the past decade a significant shortage of 3 He has occurred. Since this material is widely used in neutron detection applications, e.g. by first responders, during on-site inspections, and in safeguard applications where nuclear and radioactive material has to be localized and possibly identified, alternative materials need to be considered ...

Proportional counter as neutron detector
Radiation Measurements, 2001A technique to separate out the dose, and lineal energy spectra of neutrons and charged particles is described. It is based on using two proportional counters, one with a wall, and the other with similar characteristics but wall made from a non-hydrogen containing material. Results of a calibration in a neutron field are also shown.

NEUTRON RECOILS IN THE DRIFT DETECTOR
The Identification of Dark Matter, 2001Abstract The Directional Recoil Identification From Tracks (DRIFT) project is an endeavor to build and operate a low pressure negative ion TPC to search for weakly interacting massive particles thought to make up the dark matter in our Galaxy. This paper will focus on a neutron exposure of a small DRIFT prototype, a Monte Carlo to simulate these ...

Multilayer detector of neutrons
2000 IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium. Conference Record (Cat. No.00CH37149), 2002The description of the complex created basing the multilayer detector of neutrons for solution of the problem of monitoring of spectral structure of neutron flux is submitted. The principle of the basis of creation of the multilayer detector, and construction of the detector containing five detecting layers made of He-3 counters is given. The technique

Abstract A new neutron detector - the neutron sensitive dielectric loaded with grains of superconductor was studied. This very preliminary tests suggest that - the superheated superconducting colloid loaded with natural boron compound, B 4 C, detects neutrons; - the rejection of about 100 keV gamma backgrounds is excellent.

Phononic crystal as a neutron detector
Ultrasonics, 2019A perfect phononic crystal model composed of concrete and epoxy, and another defect model of Aluminum/Concrete/Epoxy were proposed. The two models were analyzed computationally and theoretically based on the transfer matrix method. The proposed models were capable of detecting and sensing neutrons irradiations over a wide fluence range based on the ...

The methods described in this article have been developed for studies of fission-neutron spectra. The range of problems that can be solved with their help can be greatly expanded. For example, a 4 π detector similar to the one described here has been used to separate prompt and delayed fission neutrons and (γ, f) and (γ, n) neutrons [10].
