Re-evaluation of protein neutron crystallography with and without X-ray/neutron joint refinement

open access: yesIUCrJ, 2022
Protein neutron crystallography is a powerful technique to determine the positions of H atoms, providing crucial biochemical information such as the protonation states of catalytic groups and the geometry of hydrogen bonds.

Neutron Scattering as a Powerful Tool to Investigate Magnetic Shape Memory Alloys: A Review

open access: yesMetals, 2021
Magnetic shape memory alloys (MSMAs) are an interesting class of smart materials characterized by undergoing macroscopic deformations upon the application of a pertinent stimulus: temperature, stress and/or external magnetic fields. Since the deformation

Neutron diffraction [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1949
The problem of neutron diffraction by crystals is treated by analogy with X-ray diffraction, consideration being given to the perfect crystal, the mosaic crystal and the powdered block. The first part of the paper deals with a comparison between X-ray and neutron diffraction and it is shown that quantitatively the two are similar, apart ...

Study of neutron fundamental properties in the perfect crystal optics and diffraction [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2019
Review of the new crystal-diffraction methods to study fundamental neutron properties and interactions is presented. Features of neutron optics in the crystal without a center of symmetry is discussed as well as the first experimental results and ...

Accurate crystal structure of ice VI from X-ray diffraction with Hirshfeld atom refinement

open access: yesIUCrJ, 2022
Water is an essential chemical compound for living organisms, and twenty of its different crystal solid forms (ices) are known. Still, there are many fundamental problems with these structures such as establishing the correct positions and thermal ...

Accuracy of Measuring Rebar Strain in Concrete Using a Diffractometer for Residual Stress Analysis

open access: yesQuantum Beam Science, 2023
Neutron diffraction is a noncontact method that can measure the rebar strain inside concrete. In this method, rebar strain and stress are calculated using the diffraction profile of neutrons irradiated during a specific time period.

Study of CeNi4Mn by neutron diffraction [PDF]

open access: yesSolid State Communications, 2007
We report neutron diffraction measurements on CeNi4Mn, which has recently been identified as a soft ferromagnet (Tc ~ 140 K) with a sizeable spin-transport polarization. Our data show conclusively that the Mn atoms occupy a unique site (4c) in the unit cell, which has the symmetry of the cubic MgCu4Sn-type structure. We infer a moment of 4.6 mu_B on Mn

Quantum information approach to the implementation of a neutron cavity

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2023
Using the quantum information model of dynamical diffraction we consider a neutron cavity composed of two perfect crystal silicon blades capable of containing the neutron wavefunction.

Microgravity crystallization of perdeuterated tryptophan synthase for neutron diffraction

open access: yesnpj Microgravity, 2022
Biologically active vitamin B6-derivative pyridoxal 5′-phosphate (PLP) is an essential cofactor in amino acid metabolic pathways. PLP-dependent enzymes catalyze a multitude of chemical reactions but, how reaction diversity of PLP-dependent enzymes is ...
