QENS and the benefit of diffusion measurements over different length scales

open access: yes, 2007
The quasi-elastic neutron scattering (QENS) technique was first used to derive self-diffusivities of hydrocarbons in zeolites, but transport diffusivities of deuterated molecules and of molecules which do not contain hydrogen atoms can now be measured ...

Atomically Modulating Competing Exchange Interactions in Centrosymmetric Skyrmion Hosts GdRu2X2 (X = Si and Ge)

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Our work bridges the gap between skyrmion discovery and material design by demonstrating how atomic‐scale control of exchange interactions enables tunable skyrmion phase transitions in centrosymmetric magnetic metals. ABSTRACT Magnetic skyrmions are topologically protected spin states that hold promise for shaping the future of electronics.

Application of the smoothed particle hydrodynamics method to the neutron diffusion equation

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology
A novel meshless method, known as Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH), is applied to solve the neutron diffusion equation for the first time. The discrete forms for each term of the neutron diffusion equation and the boundary conditions are presented ...

Development of an Analytic Nodal Diffusion Solver in Multigroups for 3D Reactor Cores with Rectangular or Hexagonal Assemblies.

open access: yes, 2009
More accurate modelling of physical phenomena involved in present and future nuclear reactors requires a multi-scale and multi-physics approach. This challenge can be accomplished by the coupling of best-estimate core-physics, thermal-hydraulics and ...

Discovery of an Ideal HgO12 Icosahedron and Magnetodielectric Coupling in HgCu3Ti4O12

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
HgCu3Ti4O12, an A‐site‐ordered quadruple perovskite with a perfectly regular HgO12 coordination, has been synthesized for the first time using high‐pressure methods. The material shows antiferromagnetic ordering at 31 K together with an intrinsic dielectric anomaly, implying possible magnetodielectric coupling.

Optimize Before You Synthesize—Enhancing the Ionic Conductivity of Li7SiPS8 Using Bayesian Optimization

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Bayesian optimization was used to optimize the synthesis parameters of the solid electrolyte Li7SiPS8$\mathrm {Li}_7\mathrm {SiPS}_8$ in order to increase the ionic conductivity. After only 32 iterations, the ionic conductivity was successfully increased from 2 to 7 mS cm−1$\mathrm {cm}^{-1}$ at 25∘C$^\circ\mathrm {C}$, while synthesis temperature and ...

Exploring the neutron diffusion system under reflector boundaries via an ansatz approach: time-dependent solution

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics
This paper analyzes the dynamics of the neutron diffusion kinetic system under reflector boundaries/zero-flux gradient. An ansatz approach is proposed to exactly solve the governing system.

Pressure evolution of microscopic diffusion in liquid water

open access: yes, 2006
The single particle dynamics of liquid water has been investigated as a function of pressure and momentum transfer by quasielastic neutron scattering. A line-shape analysis of the experimental spectra enabled us to extract the values of the microscopic ...

Fabrication of Composite Cathode for All‐Solid‐State Sodium Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
The design of composite cathodes for all‐solid‐state sodium batteries must address three critical challenges—interfacial side reactions, interfacial delamination, and highly tortuous transport pathways. This work outlines structural and interfacial strategies to optimize ion transport and mechanical stability, enabling durable, and high‐performance ...

Controlling Exsolution Dynamics in High‐Entropy Oxides for Highly Active and Selective Acetylene Semi‐Hydrogenation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Li+‐induced lattice distortion, valence variation, and local charge redistribution in a rock salt‐structured high‐entropy oxide enable controlled metal exsolution, altering the Cu–Ni–Co exsolution sequence and delivering a surface Cu0‐enriched catalyst with exceptional activity and ethylene selectivity for acetylene semi‐hydrogenation.
