Flux measurements at the new Swiss Spallation Neutron Source SINQ
During the initial beam tests of SINQ in December 1996 and March/April 1997, extensive flux measurements were made at the neutron guide system and at thermal beam ports, applying gold-foil activation, Gd-conversion and imaging plate radiography, time-of ...

Ion trapping with fast-response ion-selective microelectrodes enhances detection of extracellular ion channel gradients [PDF]
Previously, functional mapping of channels has been achieved by measuring the passage of net charge and of specific ions with electrophysiological and intracellular fluorescence imaging techniques.

Disorder‐Broadened Topological Hall Phase and Anomalous Hall Scaling in FeGe
By systematically introducing defects into FeGe via ion‐beam modification, we demonstrate that disorder broadens the temperature regime over which the topological Hall effect ‐ a signature of skyrmions or other chiral textures — appears, while also increasing its magnitude.

Fusion Based Neutron Sources for Security Applications: Neutron Techniques [PDF]
The current reliance on X-Rays and intelligence for na- tional security is insufficient to combat the current risks of smuggling and terrorism seen on an international level. There are a range of neutron based security techniques which have the potential

Time-resolved fast-neutron imaging with a pulse-counting image intensifier [PDF]
A new imaging method that combines high-efficiency fast-neutron detection with sub-ns time resolution is presented. This is achieved by exploiting the high neutron detection efficiency of a thick scintillator and the fast timing capability and ...

Water Organization and Hydration‐Dependent Hydroxide Transport in Anion Exchange Membranes (AEM)
Hydroxide transport in anion exchange membranes is governed by the organization of water within the polymer rather than by hydration alone. A hydration‐window framework is presented to unify transport, swelling, and mechanical stability, providing guidance for designing durable membranes for fuel cells and other hydroxide‐based electrochemical ...

Research on Calibration Method of 18F Aerosol Monitor
To prevent severe safety accidents caused by primary coolant leakage in pressurized water reactors (PWRs), it is necessary to monitor the leakage rate of key parts of the reactor coolant pressure boundary (RCPB) in order to take timely countermeasures ...

Bulk‐Like Spin Cycloid and Fast Switching in Freestanding BiFeO3
Freestanding BiFeO3 membranes overcome substrate‐induced constraints by simultaneously restoring the intrinsic bulk‐like spin cycloid and enabling ≈50% faster ferroelectric switching than substrate‐clamped epitaxial thin films. This combination of robust noncollinear antiferromagnetic order and efficient electric‐field switching establishes ...

Nitride MXenes remain constrained by a persistent gap between computational prediction and experimental realization. This Review identifies the thermodynamic, kinetic, and chemical barriers limiting their synthesis, critically evaluates emerging fabrication routes, and proposes a multidimensional computational‐experimental framework to accelerate the ...

Generating Unconventional Spin‐Orbit Torques With Patterned Phase Gradients in Tungsten Thin Films
ABSTRACT A key aim in spintronics is to achieve current‐induced magnetization switching via spin‐orbit torques without external magnetic fields. For this, the focus of recent work has been on introducing controlled lateral gradients across ferromagnet/heavy‐metal devices, giving variations in thickness, composition, or interface quality.
