Characterisation of neutron field in the polyethylene neutron irradiator

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2021
The paper describes neutron field characterisation of low-flux multipurpose educational irradiator developed at Czech Technical University in Prague. The irradiator is aimed for demonstration experiments including neutron activation analysis, delayed neutron counting, or studies related to neutron and/or gamma detection and spectrometric devices.

Damage evolution in neutron-irradiated Cu during neutron irradiation

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1999
Abstract We fabricate Cu of residual-gas-free by melting them in vacuum of 10 −5 Pa. Both residual-gas-free specimen and as-received specimens which were estimated to contain 4 ppm hydrogen atoms were neutron-irradiated at 200°C and 300°C with temperature-controlled rig in Japan Material Testing Reactor (JMTR).

A neutron collimator for animal irradiations

Medical Physics, 1974
A collimator for exposures of portions of small animals to 15‐MeV neutrons is described. The radiation field behind the collimator was mapped with various detectors that determined dose, neutron spectra, and fluxes.

Irradiation of the Microvasculature with Fast Neutrons

Radiology, 1979
Single- and split-dose irradiation of the eyes of dogs was performed with cyclotron-produced polyenergetic neutrons at a rate of about 0.2 Gy (20 rad) per minute. Neovascularization was subsequently induced surgically in the avascular corneas and stimulated for 7 days to study the response of slowly proliferating capillary endothelial cells.

Fast neutron irradiation for prostate cancer

Cancer and Metastasis Reviews, 2002
The purpose of this study was to summarize the progress made using fast neutron irradiation in the treatment of prostate cancer at Wayne State University between 1991 and the year 2001. The results of three Phase II studies and one Phase III st udy involving nearly 700 patients is summarized in this paper.

Neutron irradiation on MgB2

Physica C: Superconductivity and its Applications, 2007
We measured the upper critical field H-c2 and the critical current density J(c) on neutron-irradiated MgB2 samples and studied the effects of damaging on pinning mechanisms. We observed a strong enhancement of the upper critical field and great improvement of the critical current magnetic field dependence in an intermediate range of fluence.

Post-irradiation annealing of neutron-irradiated EUROFER97

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2021
Abstract Recent post-irradiation annealing (PIA) investigations on the neutron-irradiated reduced-activation ferritic-martensitic (RAFM) steel EUROFER97 have led to an almost complete recovery of the mechanical properties. To identify responsible microstructural processes, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) investigations on neutron-irradiated ...

Neutron irradiation of Ar1C60

Chemical Physics Letters, 1996
Abstract Samples of Ar 1 C 60 (both powder and films) were produced by hot isostatically pressing C 60 in an atmosphere of Ar at 170 MPa. The prepared samples of Ar 1 C 60 were irradiated with neutrons in a high flux nuclear reactor for a period of 4 h.

Neutron irradiation of heavy-fermion superconductors

Physical Review B, 1988
Upon neutron irradiation by ${10}^{18}$ neutrons/${\mathrm{cm}}^{2}$, Eg1 MeV, the superconducting transition temperatures of ${\mathrm{UBe}}_{13}$ and ${\mathrm{UPt}}_{3}$ fall by 40% and 60%, respectively---a factor of 3 more rapid than found in any other superconductor.

Hair Dosimetry Following Neutron Irradiation

Health Physics, 2007
Use of hair as a biological dosimeter of neutron exposure was proposed a few years ago. To date, the (32)S(n,p)(32)P reaction in hair with a threshold of 2.5 MeV is the best choice to determine the fast neutron dose using body activation. This information is essential with regards to the heterogeneity of the neutron transfer to the organism.
