This review focuses on operando studies of battery materials by X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and total X‐ray scattering (TXS). This work highlights potential pitfalls and identify best‐practices for operando studies and reviews some unusual experiments to illustrate how these methods can be applied beyond the evaluation of the early‐stage cycling mechanisms

Spectroscopic Neutron Imaging for Chemically Sensitive In Situ Electrolyte Characterisation
Chemically sensitive spectroscopic neutron imaging (SNI) spatially resolves composition‐dependent variations in lithium‐ion battery (LIB) electrolytes. The detection of 10% fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) at 275 μm length scales demonstrates a novel approach for investigating hydrogen environments, electrolyte heterogeneity, and degradation pathways ...

Abstract Nearly half of all living vertebrate diversity can be traced back to a single lineage of lobe‐finned fishes (piscine sarcopterygians) that radiated during the Palaeozoic Era. In recent years, the phylogenetic framework of tetrapodomorph fishes has largely stabilized, with the exception of the ‘Osteolepiformes’, the interrelationships of which ...

Materials exist that are useful for gamma scintillation, radiation shielding, neutron‐gamma pulse shape discrimination (PSD), thermal neutron detection, or high refractive index applications. While certain materials have exhibited optimal performance for each of these applications, none achieve multiple functions.

Pressurized gases reduce interfacial tension (IFT) at the gas‐liquid interfaces, their influence on the liquid–liquid interfaces remains unclear. For model compounds methane, water, and p‐xylene, neutron imaging observation of pressurized three‐phase systems is combined with Molecular Dynamics simulations.

Beyond Imperfect Match: Silicon/Graphite Hybrid Anodes for High‐Energy–Density Lithium‐Ion Batteries
Silicon/graphite (Si/Gr) hybrid anodes are limited by Si's large volume change and mismatch with Gr. This review offers mechanistic insights into imperfectly matched Si/Gr hybrid anodes, elucidating heterogeneous lithiation behavior and interfacial failure pathways, and thereby informing the design of durable, high‐energy–density lithium‐ion batteries.

Imaging of microplastic distribution–related unsaturated water flow in sand
Abstract Soil is the largest sink of microplastic (MP) in terrestrial ecosystems, yet little is known about the transport of MP in soils and its effect on water flow. Since pristine MP can generally be considered water repellent, the transport of MP and water flow are subject to feedback processes.

Abstract Seismological observations in the lunar mantle, in conjunction with experimental knowledge on the elastic wave velocities and density of lunar mantle minerals, provide important constraints on the composition and mineralogy of the lunar mantle. Here we report elastic wave velocities and density of a lunar orthopyroxene (Mg0.84Fe0.13Ca0.03SiO3)
