FUNCTIONAL AND METABOLIC ACTIVITY OF NEUTROPHILIC GRANULOCYTES IN CASE OF ACUTE BACTERIAL RHINOSINUSITIS

open access: yesИнфекция и иммунитет, 2014
. The functional and metabolic activities of neutrophilic granulocytes in patients with acute bacterial rhinosinusitis (ABRS) have been studied. Characteristics of the indices of chemiluminescence and bioluminescence for neutrophils, extracted from ...

Immunity in barren and enriched housed pigs differing in baseline cortisol concentration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
It was shown recently that barren housed pigs (small pens, no substrate) have a blunted circadian rhythm of salivary cortisol as compared to enriched housed pigs (large pens with daily fresh bedding).

Biological definition of periodontal diseases: A historical review of host‐response diagnostics and their implications for disease classification

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Understanding periodontal diseases through a biological lens has been a central aim in periodontal research. Visionary pioneers in the field established the foundations of our knowledge, providing invaluable insights into disease mechanisms and progression.

Bilateral simultaneous cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation in an adult female chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) inducing monovision

open access: yesVeterinary Ophthalmology, Volume 28, Issue 2, Page 457-464, March 2025.
Abstract Background Cataract is the major cause of visual impairment in humans. Phacoemulsification with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation is the standard technique for cataract treatment with a high success rate. In a few cases, the surgical cataract procedure and lens implantation have been applied in non‐human primates.

Resistance in carps (Cyprinus carpio L.) affected by a natural bacterial infection

open access: yesVeterinární Medicína, 2001
Sick carps, affected by acute or chronic forms of erythrodermatitis (CE) were studied. The studies were aimed at obtaining pathophysiological data which would permit evaluation of clinical status and prognosis in carps of various age (23 or 28 months ...

Neutrophil granulocyte function in pustulosis palmoplantaris

open access: yesActa Dermato-Venereologica, 1978
The phagocytic bactericidal capacity of circulating neutrophilic granulocytes was estimated in 22 patients with pustulosis palmoplantaris (PPP). The control group comprised 100 healthy individuals. Leukocytes from the patients had a statistically significant reduced capacity to kill Staph. aureus in autologous as well as in AB serum.

Immune system benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a respiratory disease characterized by pulmonary and systemic inflammation. Inflammatory mediators show relationships with shortness of breath, exercise intolerance and health related quality of life. Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR), a comprehensive education and exercise training programme, is the
