Region of Interest Detection in Melanocytic Skin Tumor Whole Slide Images -- Nevus & Melanoma [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Automated region of interest detection in histopathological image analysis is a challenging and important topic with tremendous potential impact on clinical practice. The deep-learning methods used in computational pathology may help us to reduce costs and increase the speed and accuracy of cancer diagnosis.

Identifying high‐risk melanoma patients: The importance of acquiring a detailed family history

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
Stratification by family history effectively identifies individuals with an increased melanoma risk compared with the general population. In addition to those from hereditary and familial melanoma families, surveillance should also be considered for melanoma patients from ‘possible familial melanoma’ families due to their elevated risk.

Completed suicide in patients with skin disease: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
Several skin diseases have been associated with suicidality. However, the term ‘suicidality’ encompasses ideation, which weakens the conclusions. In contrast, the much stronger endpoint of completed suicide and skin disease remains ambiguous. This was the focus of this study.

Passive versus active educational interventions for nevus and melanoma classification: A randomized controlled study

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract synthesizes the outcomes of the educational intervention aimed at improving the application of the ABCDE and Ugly Duckling (UD) rules in the assessment of melanocytic lesions in non‐medical people. Abstract Backgrounds Patients or family members first notice around 50% of primary melanoma lesions.
