An Atypical Presentation, Diagnostic Challenges, and Treatment Response of a Malignant Small Round Cell Tumor in the Lumbo‐Inguinal Region of an Infant

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Malignant small round cell tumors are a heterogeneous group of aggressive neoplasms characterized by small, round cell morphology. The undifferentiated cells in these tumors exhibit a high nuclear‐cytoplasmic ratio, and definitive histologic diagnosis via light microscopy can be extremely challenging. Diagnostic accuracy significantly improves

Blood‐based cell‐free DNA and multitarget stool RNA screening tests to detect colorectal cancer: A systematic review

open access: yesCancer, Volume 132, Issue 11, 1 June 2026.
Abstract Two new tests, a cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) blood‐based test (BBT) and multitarget stool RNA (mt‐sRNA) test with in‐laboratory fecal immunochemical testing, were recently approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, and a second BBT is under review. These tests have the potential to overcome barriers to screening.

The Atypical and Suspicious for Malignancy Categories of the WHO Reporting System for Lymph Node, Spleen, and Thymus Cytopathology: Review of their Diagnostic Utility, Limitations, and Clinical Impact

open access: yesDiagnostic Cytopathology, Volume 54, Issue 6, Page 449-460, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Fine‐needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) is the preferred first‐line diagnostic tool for evaluating lymphadenopathy due to its minimally invasive nature and cost‐effectiveness. However, cytopathological interpretation of lymph node FNAB remains challenging because of the wide morphological spectrum of lymphoid lesions.

Efficacy of MAPK inhibitors in children with neurodegenerative Langerhans cell histiocytosis: Results from the European Consortium for Histiocytosis

open access: yesHemaSphere, Volume 10, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Neurodegenerative Langerhans cell histiocytosis (ND‐LCH) is a severe and debilitating complication of LCH with no effective treatment. In this study, we assessed the efficacy of MAPK inhibitors (MAPKi) in a large cohort of children with ND‐LCH. We included pediatric patients with ND‐LCH who received MAPKi between 2013 and 2025.
