Robustness of a convolutional neural network trained on dermoscopic images and challenged with close‐up images

open access: yesJDDG: Journal der Deutschen Dermatologischen Gesellschaft, Volume 24, Issue 4, Page 504-513, April 2026.
Summary Background and Objectives Deep learning‐convolutional neural networks (DL‐CNNs) have demonstrated high diagnostic accuracy within the domain of dermoscopy. However, many clinical settings lack dermoscopic devices, requiring reliance on close‐up images. This study evaluates the robustness of a DL‐CNN trained on dermoscopic images when challenged

Clinical heterogeneity in vitiligo: Identification of clinical markers based patient clusters

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, Volume 40, Issue 4, Page 670-679, April 2026.
Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune disease with heterogeneous clinical presentations. This study analysed 399 patients using hierarchical clustering and identified five phenotypes based on clinical characteristics and lesion distribution. Two groups exhibited high disease activity and extensive involvement.

Efficacy of 1064‐nm Picosecond Laser in the Treatment of Lichen Planus Pigmentosus: A Split‐Face Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesJournal of Cosmetic Dermatology, Volume 25, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Lichen planus pigmentosus (LPP) is an uncommon variant of lichen planus that causes visible pigmentation and significantly impacts quality of life. Current treatments for LPP are limited, with inconsistent outcomes from topical, oral, and laser therapies.

Global Sensitivity Analysis for Robust XAI: Quantifying Clinical Risk and Prediction Instability in Dermoscopic Image Classification

open access: yesRisk Analysis, Volume 46, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT The high nominal accuracy achieved by deep learning models in predicting malignant skin lesions is frequently undermined by their susceptibility to operational uncertainty. Image acquisition conditions, such as lighting, device settings, and skin characteristics, introduce variations in optical parameters that compromise the model's ...
