Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Permeability of the Hydrated Shale under Cyclic Loading and Unloading Conditions

open access: yesGeofluids, 2020
The hydrated shales under cyclic loading and unloading conditions are common for the shale reservoir development; corresponding mechanical properties and permeability evolution are very significant and should be deeply researched.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Combined 5‐aminolevulinic acid and ferric ammonium citrate treatment promotes hair follicle growth by activating dermal papilla cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair

Investigation on Dynamic Factors of Railway Steel-Plate–Concrete Composite Beam Bridges With Small and Medium Spans

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering
Dynamic factor (DF) is an important indicator for describing the dynamic action of a train on a bridge. For small- and medium-span bridges, although existing research and codes have studied and specified the DF of steel–concrete composite beam bridges ...

Deep-Learning-Based Bughole Detection for Concrete Surface Image

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2019
Bugholes are surface imperfections that appear as small pits and craters on concrete surface after the casting process. The traditional measurement methods are carried out by in situ manual inspection, and the detection process is time-consuming and ...

Testing and modeling of rockfill materials: A review

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2016
The research development of rockfill materials (RFM) was investigated by a series of large-scale triaxial tests. It is observed that confining pressure and particle breakage play important roles in the mechanical property, dilatancy relation and ...

Identifying gene expression signatures for risk stratification of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in colorectal cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A novel signature integrating genome‐wide analysis with clinical factors predicts recurrence in stage II colorectal cancer and enables a new risk stratification to guide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical risk stratification for postoperative recurrence in patients with pathological stage II (pStage II) colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential ...

Lipopolysaccharide uptake is augmented in lipopolysaccharide‐tolerant mouse macrophage‐like cells via increased CD14 expression

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In normal (nontolerant) cells, CD14 is crucial for both LPS uptake and LPS signaling. In LPS‐tolerant cells, in which LPS‐induced TNF‐α and IFN‐β production is suppressed, there is a dramatic increase in surface CD14 expression. The overexpressed CD14 in LPS‐tolerant cells is responsible for the enhanced LPS uptake without inducing pro‐inflammatory ...

Pandemic legacies: funding urban recovery in Europe and the US

open access: yes, 2023
Catarina Heeckt, from LSE Cities, argues that the European Union has missed a key opportunity to empower cities – and that there is much to learn from the bold approach taken in the ...
