A Structuralist and Institutionalist developmental assessment of and reaction to New Developmentalism [PDF]

open access: yesReview of Keynesian Economics, 2020
This paper provides a critical assessment of the New Developmental view summarized in Bresser-Pereira (2016). It is argued that although New Developmentalism correctly observes that Classical Developmentalism underestimated and insufficiently considered the role of demand as a motor of growth (this critique also applies to modern Schumpeterian views ...

Towards a new developmental synthesis: adaptive developmental plasticity and human disease [PDF]

open access: yesThe Lancet, 2009

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Rethinking agency: developmentalism, gender and rights [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In a new book, LSE’s Sumi Madhok proposes a new theoretical framework for agency thinking by examining the ethical, discursive and practical engagements of a group of women development workers in north-west India with developmentalism and individual ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Qualitative Research on Youths’ Social Media Use: A review of the literature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this article we explore how educational researchers report empirical qualitative research about young people’s social media use. We frame the overall study with an understanding that social media sites contribute to the production of neoliberal ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.
