A link between increased temperature and avian body condition in a logged tropical forest

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract The combined effects of anthropogenic disturbances, such as logging and climate change, remain poorly understood; yet, they are the main threats to tropical biodiversity. Most tropical African countries lack long‐term climate data, so climate impacts on biodiversity cannot be assessed.

Analysis of Newmark Explicit Integration Method for Nonlinear Systems

open access: yesJournal of Mechanics, 2006
AbstractNumerical properties of the Newmark explicit method in the solution of nonlinear systems are explored. It is found that the upper stability limit is no longer equal to 2 for the Newmark explicit method for nonlinear systems. In fact, it is enlarged for stiffness softening and is reduced for stiffness hardening.

Machining Simulation of Recrystallized SiC: Failure Mechanisms, Numerical Influences, Tool Dynamics, and Friction Behavior

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT This paper presents a comprehensive study on the machining simulation of recrystallized silicon carbide (R‐SiC), with a focus on material failure mechanisms, numerical influences, tool kinematics, and frictional behavior. A representative volume of interest was derived from CT data, and a meshing algorithm for CT‐based structures was ...

Prediction of Time Domain Vibro-Acoustic Response of Conical Shells Using Jacobi–Ritz Boundary Element Method

open access: yesAcoustics
Considering the lack of studies on the transient vibro-acoustic properties of conical shell structures, a Jacobi–Ritz boundary element method for forced vibro-acoustic behaviors of structure is proposed based on the Newmark-β integral method and the ...

Parametric Model Order Reduction by Box Clustering With Applications in Mechatronic Systems

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Volume 127, Issue 10, 30 May 2026.
ABSTRACT High temperatures and structural deformations can compromise the functionality and reliability of new components for mechatronic systems. Therefore, high‐fidelity simulations (HFS) are employed during the design process, as they enable a detailed analysis of the thermal and structural behavior of the system.

Analysis of shock calculation based on Newmark integral method

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2021
Abstract In this paper, the time domain method for the calculation of impact resistance is studied. Firstly, the central difference method and the Newmark integration method based on the analysis of the linear equations and the solution of the nonlinear equations are educed. Then, the advantages and disadvantages of these two methods are

Improving the accuracy of the Newmark method through backward error analysis

open access: yesComputational Mechanics
Abstract We use backward error analysis for differential equations to obtain modified or distorted equations describing the behaviour of the Newmark scheme applied to the transient structural dynamics equation. Based on the newly derived distorted equations, we give expressions for the numerically or algorithmically distorted stiffness and ...

A Data-Driven Model for Predictive Modeling of Vortex-Induced Vibrations of a Long-Span Bridge

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Vortex-induced vibration (VIV) of long-span bridges can be of large amplitude, which can influence serviceability. Therefore, it is important to predict the response of vortex-induced vibration to aid the management of long-span bridges.

Application of Residual Shear Strength Predicted by Artificial Neural Network Model for Evaluating Liquefaction-Induced Lateral Spreading

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2020
The residual shear strength of liquefied soil is critical to estimating the displacement of lateral spreading. In the paper, an Artificial Neural Network model was trained to predict the residual shear strength ratio based on the case histories of ...

Translation methods for movie titles: A case study in Vietnam [PDF]

open access: yesTraining, Language and Culture
The study aims to examine how movie titles are translated from English to Vietnamese under the light of the translation methods proposed by Newmark (1988).
