Information Overload: Mass Media and Fake News
2023Abstract Another hallmark of both turn-of-the-century periods was radically new forms of mass media. The ability to reach a mass audience was made possible by the revolutions in transportation and communications in the decades of the 1960s and 1970s in both centuries. The chapter examines the rise of the Broadsheet and Penny Press in the

A new algorithm of corrective control to relieve overloads
2012 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting, 2012This paper presents a novel algorithm to relieve the overload occurring in a power system. This algorithm is developed based on theoretical results obtained from the DC power flow formulation. Only two times of DC power flow analysis is needed to identify the lines and transformers that can relieve the overload by switching.

A New Approach for Overload Management in Content-based Publish/Subscribe
International Conference on Software Engineering Advances (ICSEA 2007), 2007Overload management is of vital importance in wide-area publish/subscribe systems, yet current solutions are best-effort. In this paper, we present an admission control scheme for overload management in large-scale and scalable content-based publish/subscribe systems.

A new look at phospholamban in pressure-overload hypertrophy
American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 2006THE QUESTION OF THE MECHANISMS of pathological cardiac hypertrophy and the relationship of changes in cellular function to a myriad of clinical symptoms has long been an important and intriguing puzzle to researchers. How is it that exercise induces signaling changes that are beneficial to heart function but pathological conditions such as hypertension

Re-defining kinetic lung overload: Time for new paradigms
Toxicology Letters, 2018This paper compares two previously published 13-week inhalation studies with poorly soluble, low-toxicity particles (PSLTs) in rats to identify the unifying key metric of kinetic lung overload. The PSLTs compared are Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNT) and black iron oxide (Fe3O4, magnetite).

A new syndrome of liver iron overload with normal transferrin saturation
The Lancet, 1997We investigated patients who had unexplained hepatic iron overload and normal transferrin saturation.65 patients with a median liver iron concentration of 65 mumol/g dry weight of liver (normal < 36 mumol/g), hyperferritinaemia (566 micrograms/L; normal < 400 micrograms/L), and normal transferrin saturations (32%) were compared with genetic ...

A Review of New Concepts in Iron Overload.
Gastroenterology & hepatologyIron overload disorders are conditions that can lead to increased body iron stores and end-organ damage in affected organs. Increased iron deposition most commonly occurs in the liver, heart, endocrine system, joints, and pancreas. Iron overload disorders may be caused by genetic or acquired causes (transfusion, dyserythropoiesis, and chronic liver ...
