Some Bounds for the Number of Components of Real Zero Sets of Sparse Polynomials

open access: yes, 2005
We prove that the zero set of a 4-nomial in n variables in the positive orthant has at most three connected components. This bound, which does not depend on the degree of the polynomial, not only improves the best previously known bound (which was 10 ...

Polyoxometalates for Health, Electronics, Energy, and the Environment: Challenges, Opportunities, and Future Horizons

open access: yesChemistryEurope, Volume 4, Issue 5, May 2026.
Polyoxometalates (POMs), illustrated as lemon‐like cars racing along a winding road, symbolize the accelerating progress of POM research toward technological applications. Global research communities, recent advances, and emerging opportunities highlight how coordinated efforts drive the transition of POM science from molecular discovery to deployable ...

A systematic review evaluating the performance of eDNA methods relative to conventional methods for biodiversity monitoring

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2026, Issue 5, May 2026.
The rapid adoption of environmental DNA (eDNA) methods has drastically changed biodiversity monitoring efforts. It is often claimed that eDNA methods are more sensitive and efficient than conventional biodiversity monitoring methods, but it is often unclear what metrics support this claim.

Scale of herpetofauna mitigation translocation in British Columbia, Canada

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 4, May 2026.
Mitigation translocation is widely used across British Columbia to move amphibians and reptiles away from development. Reviewing permits from 2019–2022, we found that more than 5 million individuals, mostly larval western toads, were relocated. Yet almost no monitoring occurs, leaving outcomes unknown.

Functional analysis of regenerated digit in newt following complete amputation at proximal interphalangeal joint

open access: yesJournal of Biomechanical Science and Engineering
Amphibians possess high regeneration capacity of complicated structures such as articular joints. However, it is unknown when and how the joint function recovers during the regeneration process following a joint amputation. The present study examined the

Biophysical characterization of Cyclophilin B reveals membrane localization as its primary functional determinant as a prolyl isomerase

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) provides a specialized environment for the folding of secreted and membrane proteins, a process supported by many different chaperones. Among these chaperones, peptidyl‐prolyl cis/trans isomerases (PPIases) catalyze a rate‐limiting conformational step in protein folding, yet the principles governing isoform ...

‘Better Conversations With Developmental Language Disorder’: Designing a Novel Intervention for School‐Aged Children and Their Main Carers

open access: yesInternational Journal of Language &Communication Disorders, Volume 61, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Children with developmental language disorder (DLD) experience difficulties with receptive and expressive language, which can affect their participation in everyday interactions with others. This, in turn, can impact their ongoing language development and ability to form and maintain friendships. This paper describes the development

Testing Threats in Repeated Games [PDF]

open access: yes
I introduce a solution concept for infinite-horizon games, called “Nash equilibrium with added tests”, in which players optimize with respect to relevant threats only after having tested them before.
