Radiographic Anatomy of the Limb Skeleton of the Neurergus kaiseri [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Veterinary Surgery
This study investigates the radiographic anatomy of the forelimb and hindlimb skeletons in the critically endangered Kaiser’s Mountain newt (Neurergus kaiseri), an endemic Iranian salamander.

Implications of a Multi-Step Trigger of Retinal Regeneration in the Adult Newt

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2017
The newt is an amazing four-limbed vertebrate that can regenerate various body parts including the retina. In this animal, when the neural retina (NR) is removed from the eye by surgery (retinectomy), both the NR and the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE ...

Environmental changes in oxygen tension reveal ROS-dependent neurogenesis and regeneration in the adult newt brain

open access: yeseLife, 2015
Organisms need to adapt to the ecological constraints in their habitat. How specific processes reflect such adaptations are difficult to model experimentally. We tested whether environmental shifts in oxygen tension lead to events in the adult newt brain

Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

First observation of facultative paedomorphosis in the Danube crested newt (Triturus dobrogicus Kiritzescu, 1903) and the occurrence of facultative paedomorphosis in two newt species from soda pans of the Danube-Tisza Interfluve (Kiskunság National Park, Hungary) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The first observation of paedomorphosis in Triturus dobrogicus and the occurrence of facultative paedomorphosis in two newt species (T.dobrogicus and Lissotriton vulgaris) from soda pans of the Danube- Tisza Interfluve, Hungary are reported in this ...

Developmental alterations in centrosome integrity contribute to the post-mitotic state of mammalian cardiomyocytes

open access: yeseLife, 2015
Mammalian cardiomyocytes become post-mitotic shortly after birth. Understanding how this occurs is highly relevant to cardiac regenerative therapy. Yet, how cardiomyocytes achieve and maintain a post-mitotic state is unknown.

Bounded-degree factors of lacunary multivariate polynomials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper, we present a new method for computing bounded-degree factors of lacunary multivariate polynomials. In particular for polynomials over number fields, we give a new algorithm that takes as input a multivariate polynomial f in lacunary ...

Discovery and Targeted Proteomic Studies Reveal Striatal Markers Validated for Huntington's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Clinical trials for Huntington's disease (HD) enrolling persons before clinical motor diagnosis (CMD) lack validated biomarkers. This study aimed to conduct an unbiased discovery analysis and a targeted examination of proteomic biomarkers scrutinized by clinical validation. Methods Cerebrospinal fluid was obtained from PREDICT‐HD and

Good news from newts: distribution, population size, and dynamics of two protected newt species in the Jiu Gorge National Park, Romania

open access: yesStudia Universitatis Babeș-Bolyai. Biologia, 2023
Long-time monitoring studies recently indicated that newts are in decline in many regions. Motivated by the above-mentioned, in the year 2019, we started monitoring the newt populations from the Jiu Gorge National Park (JGNP) in the Romanian Carpathians,
