Hopping‐Mediated Zero‐Bias Photocharge Retention in Solution‐Processed Van Der Waals Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid–liquid interface assembly enables the fabrication of solution‐processed MoS2 and WSe2 centimeter‐scale, nanometer‐thick type‐II heterostructures on paper. Interfacial charge separation and hopping‐limited recombination produce rectification and persistent photocharge retention at zero bias.

Operando single-particle imaging reveals that asymmetric ion flux contributes to capacity degradation in aged Ni-rich layered cathodes [PDF]

open access: yes
Using an operando optical scattering technique, we identify markedly asymmetric Li-ion flux in aged single crystalline NMC cathodes, primarily caused by an uneven growth of rocksalt phase across the particle surface.

Constructing Stable Sub/Surface Structure to Boost Superior Cyclabilities of Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Rich Cathode

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Under prolonged high‐voltage cycling, single‐crystalline Ni‐rich cathodes are prone to severe transition metal dissolution, irreversible phase transformations, and reduced structural stability, which significantly hinder their practical application ...

Limiting cationic mixing and lattice oxygen loss of single-crystalline Ni-rich Co-poor cathodes for high-voltage Li-ion batteries

open access: yesGreen Energy & Environment
Developing cost-effective single-crystalline Ni-rich Co-poor cathodes operating at high-voltage is one of the most important ways to achieve higher energy Li-ion batteries.

Graphene/PVDF Composites for Ni-rich Oxide Cathodes toward High-Energy Density Li-ion Batteries

open access: yes, 2021
Li-ion batteries (LIBs) employ porous, composite-type electrodes, where few weight percentages of carbonaceous conducting agents and polymeric binders are required to bestow electrodes with electrical conductivity and mechanical robustness.

Effects of LLZO Microstructure Porosity, LLZO/Li‐Metal Interfacial Polarization Resistance, and Applied Areal Current Density on Li‐Metal Dendrite Formation in LLZO Bilayer Symmetric Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The effects of solid‐state electrolyte architecture and electrolyte/electrode interfacial polarization resistance on Critical Current Density and the risks for “interfacial” and “internal” Li‐metal dendrite formation were investigated in simulations of FIB‐reconstructed porous‐dense Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO) “bilayers”, providing insight for full cells ...

Critical Perspective on the Industry-centred Engineering of Single-Crystalline Ni-rich Cathodes

open access: yes, 2023
Ever growth in the energy demand has catapulted us to explore various energies. Henceforth, to meet these ends, among the different cathode active materials, nickel (Ni) rich polycrystalline (PC) cathode materials have been known to serve the purpose ...

Al3+/Ta5+ Co‐Doping Promotes Homogeneous Li+ Transport Enabling High Performance Ni‐Rich Layered Oxide Cathodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Al3+/Ta5+ co‐doping refines the primary particles of LiNiO2, reduces Li/Ni antisite disorder, and expands the c‐axis lattice parameter, thereby enabling faster and more homogeneous Li+ transport. Such rapid and homogeneous Li+ transport suppresses high‐voltage phase transitions and microcrack formation, ultimately improving the rate capability and long‐

Nitride MXenes Beyond Carbides: Bridging the Gap Between Computational Prediction and Experimental Realization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Nitride MXenes remain constrained by a persistent gap between computational prediction and experimental realization. This Review identifies the thermodynamic, kinetic, and chemical barriers limiting their synthesis, critically evaluates emerging fabrication routes, and proposes a multidimensional computational‐experimental framework to accelerate the ...
