Dual‐Layer Living Hydrogel Enables On‐Demand Delivery of Phages and Probiotics for Synergistic Wound Infection Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐layer living hydrogel, ProΦGel, integrates bacteriophages and probiotics for synergistic wound infection therapy. The outer gelatin‐based matrix releases phages on demand in response to P. aeruginosa infections, while inner alginate beads sustain probiotic delivery.

Pulsed resource availability changes dietary niche breadth and partitioning between generalist rodent consumers

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2019
Identifying the mechanisms that structure niche breadth and overlap between species is important for determining how species interact and assessing their functional role in an ecosystem.

Keanekaragaman Jenis Dan Pemanfaatan Sumberdaya Oleh Kelelawar Sub Ordo Megachiroptera Di Taman Wisata Alam Gunung Meja Manokwari, Papua Barat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Bats utilizing resources together will differ morphologically, ecologically, and behaviorally. This study aimed to measurespecies diversity and to investigate resource use by Megachiropteran bats. Data were analyzed using Principal ComponentAnalysis (PCA)

Targeting Post‐Irradiation Thyroid Dysfunction: Electrospun Scaffolds As A Dual‐Action Approach for Antioxidant and Immune Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Radiation‐induced hypothyroidism follows head and neck radiotherapy due to oxidative stress and inflammation. Electrospun polycaprolactone scaffolds containing adenosine have potential to modulate thyroid repair. Scaffolds enhance thyrocyte proliferation, antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase and catalase, reduce senescence and apoptosis markers ...

Coexistence of fish species in a large lowland river: food niche partitioning between small-sized percids, cyprinids and sticklebacks in submersed macrophytes. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
In the spring and summer of each year, large patches of submersed aquatic macrophytes overgrow the bottom of the alluvial Warta River downstream of a large dam reservoir owing to water management practices.

Measures of Niche Overlap, II [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
An axiomatic basis for the construction of measures of niche overlap is analysed, and its implications are discussed, with particular reference to the more commonly used measures.

Translucent windows: How uncertainty in competitive interactions impacts detection of community pattern [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Trait variation and similarity among coexisting species can provide a window into the mechanisms that maintain their coexistence. Recent theoretical explorations suggest that competitive interactions will lead to groups, or clusters, of species with ...

A new probabilistic method for quantifying n‐dimensional ecological niches and niche overlap [PDF]

open access: yesEcology, 2015
Considerable progress has been made in the development of statistical tools to quantify trophic relationships using stable isotope ratios, including tools that address size and overlap of isotopic niches. We build upon recent progress and propose a new probabilistic method for determining niche region and pairwise niche overlap that can be extended ...

Few‐Layered Conductive Graphene Foams for Electrical Transdifferentiation of Mesenchymal Stem Cells Into Schwann Cell‐Like Phenotypes

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Few‐layered three dimansional conductive graphene foams are promising cytocompatible platforms to transdifferentiate mesenchymal stem cells into Schwann cell‐like phenotypes using electrical and microstructural cues. Applied electrical stimulation conditions resulted in activation of MAPK, neurotrphin and RAS signaling pathways that led to upregulation
