Engineered nanomaterials suppress Turnip mosaic virus infection in tobacco (Nicotiana benthamiana)

, 2018
Tobacco (Nicotiana benthamiana) and Turnip mosaic virus (TuMV) were used as a model system to investigate the potential of engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) for promoting crop growth and resistance to viral infection.

Production of Nicotiana tabacum x Nicotiana acuminata hybrid by ovule culture [PDF]

open access: possiblePlant Cell Reports, 1986
Using a conventional sexual crossing technique, Nicotiana tabacum x N. acuminata was not produced. After the fertilized ovules were cultured for 20 days in a liquid Nitsch H medium, germination was observed. The roots grew rapidly but leaves did not.

The chloroplast genome of Nicotiana sylvestris and Nicotiana tomentosiformis: complete sequencing confirms that the Nicotiana sylvestris progenitor is the maternal genome donor of Nicotiana tabacum

Molecular Genetics and Genomics, 2006
The tobacco cultivar Nicotiana tabacum is a natural amphidiploid that is thought to be derived from ancestors of Nicotiana sylvestris and Nicotiana tomentosiformis. To compare these chloroplast genomes, DNA was prepared from isolated chloroplasts from green leaves of N. sylvestris and N. tomentosiformis, and subjected to whole-genome shotgun sequencing.

Ecological Roles and Biological Activities of Specialized Metabolites from the Genus Nicotiana.

Chemical Reviews, 2017
Species of Nicotiana grow naturally in different parts of the world and have long been used both medicinally and recreationally by human societies. More recently in our history, Nicotiana tabacum has attracted interest as one of the most economically ...

In vitro hybridization in an incompatible cross Nicotiana glutinosa X Nicotiana megalosiphon [PDF]

open access: possibleTheoretical and Applied Genetics, 1985
Using conventional techniques interspecific hybridization between N. glutinosa (2n=24) and N. megalosiphon (2n=40) results in failure while the reciprocal is successful. Attempts were made here to obtain an F1 hybrid of N. glutinosa X N. megalosiphon by embryo rescue.

<i>Nicotiana</i> (<i>Nicotiana tobaccum, Nicotiana benthamiana</i>)

2006
Agrobacterium-mediated transformation of Nicotiana species, namely, Nicotiana tobaccum and Nicotiana benthamiana, using leaf disks as the target explant has provided the plant community with a valuable tool for rapid evaluation of transgenes in higher plants.

Amplification of repetitive DNA from Nicotiana plumbaginifolia in asymmetric somatic hybrids between Nicotiana sylvestris and Nicotiana plumbaginifolia

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1993
Asymmetric somatic hybrids were obtained between a chlorophyll-deficient mutant of Nicotiana sylvestris (V42) and a nitrate-reductase (NR)-deficient line of N. plumbaginifolia (cnx20 or Nia26), using each of the parents alternately as the irradiated donor. Irradiation doses applied ranged from 10 to 1,000 Gy of gamma-rays. Hybrid selection was based on

Analysis of RNA Silencing in Agroinfiltrated Leaves of Nicotiana Benthamiana and Nicotiana Tabacum

Plant Molecular Biology, 2005
In this study we analyse several aspects of cytoplasmic RNA silencing by agroinfiltration of DNA constructs encoding single- and double-stranded RNAs derived from a GFP transgene and from the endogenous Virp1 gene. Both types of inductors resulted after 2-4 days in much higher concentration of siRNAs in the agroinfiltrated zone than normally seen ...

Analysis of Nicotiana tabacum PIN genes identifies NtPIN4 as a key regulator of axillary bud growth.

Physiologia Plantarum : An International Journal for Plant Biology, 2017
The plant-specific PIN-FORMED (PIN) auxin efflux proteins have been well characterized in many plant species, where they are crucial in the regulation of auxin transport in various aspects of plant development.
