Mutational analysis of the carbohydrate binding activity of the tobacco lectin [PDF]
At present the three-dimensional structure of the tobacco lectin, further referred to as Nictaba, and its carbohydrate-binding site are unresolved. In this paper, we propose a three-dimensional model for the Nictaba domain based on the homology between ...

Soybean and tobacco response to sublethal rates of herbicides used along roadsides
Abstract Herbicides are one of the primary tools for vegetation management along roadsides. However, the drift of particles and vapors from herbicide applications along roadsides can cause damage and yield loss in adjacent sensitive crops. The objective of this research was to investigate the response of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] and tobacco ...

Functional analysis of CcDREB1D promoter region from haplotypes of Coffea canephora through genetic transformation of Nicotiana tabacum [PDF]
Recent studies in coffee resulted in the identification of many candidate genes for drought tolerance characterized by differential expression profiles in leaves of drought-tolerant and susceptible clones of Coffea canephora Conilon.

Protein and alkaloid patterns of the floral nectar in some solanaceous species [PDF]
The family Solanaceae includes several melliferous plants, which tend to produce copious amounts of nectar. Floral nectar is a chemically complex aqueous solution, dominated by sugars, but minor components such as amino acids, proteins, flavonoids and ...

Affinity chromatography of Nicotiana tabacum ribonucleases
Abstract The purification of tobacco ribonuclease by affinity chromatography is described. 5′-(4-amino-phenylphosphoryl)-guanosine 2′, (3′) phosphate, a ribonuelease inhibitor, has been synthesized and insolubilized onto agarose beads. The resulting adsorbent binds tobacco and some other plant ribonucleases strongly but reversibly at pH 5.4.

Summary Carotenoids and apocarotenoids are widespread specialized metabolites, yet animals, including sponges, lack the ability to synthesize carotenoids de novo and must obtain them from dietary or microbial sources. The roles of carotenoid cleavage dioxygenases (CCDs) in marine animals remain largely unexplored. A CCD from the marine sponge Suberites

Analysis of DREB1D gene sequence in different Coffea genotypes : S03P07 [PDF]
In several plant species, the DREB genes play a key role in responses to abiotic stress. Since the development of molecular markers is one of the major goals for accelerating breeding programs, a study was done to evaluate the sequence variability of the

PWO proteins are associated with PRC2 since their emergence in vascular plants
Summary The Polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2), a conserved histone methyltransferase complex, plays a central role in transcriptional silencing across eukaryotes. Here, we investigate the evolution of PWWP‐DOMAIN INTERACTORS OF POLYCOMBS (PWOs), which interact with PRC2, and examine the conservation of the PWOs‐PRC2 interaction across plant ...

Comparative genomic analysis of light-regulated transcripts in the Solanaceae [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Plants use different light signals to adjust their growth and development to the prevailing environmental conditions. Studies in the model species Arabidopsis thaliana and rice indicate that these adjustments are mediated by large changes in ...

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a key structure in plant cells that helps produce and transport proteins. We discovered that different Lunapark proteins shape ER structures in distinct ways, affecting protein movement and secretion. Understanding how ER structure influences function can help improve plant‐based production of valuable compounds, such ...
