Ba2+‐Induced Vasoconstriction as a Model to Investigate the Dynamin Dependence of Biological Processes Regulating Vascular Tone

open access: yesPharmacology Research &Perspectives, Volume 13, Issue 6, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Understanding the mechanisms underpinning vascular smooth muscle contraction, which are critical targets for cardiovascular disease treatment, is essential for developing novel therapeutic agents. Recently, the role of mitochondrial fission as a key modulatory event in the vascular contractile process has been questioned.

Contribution of chloride channels to the action potential and contraction in human myometrium during labour

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 182, Issue 23, Page 5748-5761, December 2025.
Background and purpose The action potential underpinning calcium delivery for contraction in human uterine smooth muscle (myometrium) consists of an initial spike(s) followed by a prolonged plateau of depolarization to ⁓ −25 mV. The plateau duration establishes contraction duration, especially important in labour.

Resolution of inflammation in pulmonary arterial hypertension, the influence of sex—An IUPHAR immunopharmacology committee review

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 182, Issue 23, Page 5706-5733, December 2025.
Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive and life‐threatening disease with limited treatment options. Sex differences are apparent in PAH, specifically in the pathophysiology, prognoses and pharmacological responses of patients. Inflammation and its resolution, which often differ between sexes, are dysregulated in chronic inflammatory ...
