Emergent Spinning and Orbital Motion in Clustered Wind‐Assisted Flyers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by natural snowflake geometries, paper‐cut flyers exhibit geometry‐defined spinning and orbital motions during cluster formation in a wind tunnel. Collective flights of multiple paperflakes reveal dynamic clustering, fragmentation, and continuously evolving spin behaviors.

Occupational exposure to carcinogenic substances in night versus day shift jobs

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Work, Environment & Health
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to determine whether night shift work was associated with exposure to carcinogenic hazards, independent of occupation and industry.

A qualitative study on the delayed manifestation of night shift-related intrusive memories in non-shift nurses with a history of night shift work

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
IntroductionThe adverse effects of night shift work on the physical and mental health of nurses have been widely documented. However, little is known about whether these psychological experiences persist after nurses cease working night shifts or whether

The association between exposure to different aspects of shift work and metabolic risk factors in health care workers, and the role of chronotype.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
OBJECTIVE:Shift work has been linked to cardio-metabolic diseases, but insight into different shift work-related aspects and chronotype of shift workers and their relation with metabolic risk factors is limited.

The impact of a meal, snack, or not eating during the night shift on simulated driving performance post-shift

open access: yes, 2021
Objective The commute home following a night shift is associated with an increased risk for accidents. This study investigated the relationship between food intake during the night shift and simulated driving performance post-shift.

A Dual‐Modal Wearable PPG Smartwatch with AI‐Enhanced Correction for High‐Accuracy and Continuous AF Burden Assessment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Atrial fibrillation (AF) increases the risk of stroke and heart failure, yet accurate quantification of AF burden in daily life remains difficult. Although smartwatch photoplethysmography (PPG) supports continuous monitoring, complex rhythms and signal noise can impair burden estimation.

Effects of taking a nap or break immediately after night shift on nurses’ fatigue recovery and sleep episodes: a quasi-experimental study

open access: yesJournal of Physiological Anthropology
Background Excessive fatigue, sleep deprivation, and poor intershift recovery after night shifts are associated with an increased risk of traffic accidents and maladaptive chronic fatigue.

Work at night and breast cancer--report on evidence-based options for preventive actions

open access: yes, 2012
In 2007, the International Agency for Research on Cancer classified shift work involving circadian disruption as probably carcinogenic to humans (group 2A), primarily based on experimental and epidemiologic evidence for breast cancer. In order to examine

Experience‐Dependent Reorganization of Hippocampal CA3 Neuronal Ensembles Associates With Memory Generalization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mice can transfer the learned rule of spatial working memory to guide similar but novel tasks. Hippocampal CA3 populational activity dynamically reorganize during memory generalization, shifting from task‐specific to generalized coding over testing days. Sparse yet redundant neural representations of CA3 enable rule transfer and cognitive map formation,

The effects of the number of consecutive night shifts on sleep duration and quality

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Work, Environment & Health, 2020
OBJECTIVES: The organization of night shift work affects sleep duration and quality. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the number of consecutive night shifts on sleep duration and quality among police officers with night shift work ...
