Hydroacoustic measurements of the 2004 submarine eruption near Nightingale Island, Tristan da Cunha

2020
<p>Little is known about active volcanism in the remote regions of the global ocean. Here, we resort to long‐range acoustic measurements to study the July/August 2004 eruption at Isolde, a submarine volcanic cone in the Tristan da Cunha archipelago, South Atlantic Ocean.

The role of disturbance in the establishment of indigenous and alien plants at Inaccessible and Nightingale Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean

Vegetatio, 1994
Disturbances play an important role in the establishment of vegetation at Inaccessible and Nightingale Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean. Type, altitude and age of disturbance all influenced the species richness, life-form and abundance of seedlings.

Test fishing analyses for Nightingale Island

2012
Because there was no pre-OLIVA fishing in the month of January 2011, the simpler earlier approach of Johnston (2011) to analyse test fishing data by month to assess the OLIVA impact needs to be refined to be able to include data from January 2012. General Linear Models are used for this purpose; these have the additional advantage that they can take ...

Updated 2017 Nightingale island rock lobster assessment

2017
This paper provides a further updated assessment of the rock lobster resource at Nightingale island. This assessment includes updated data from both the commercial fishery and the biomass surveys. The recent (2013-2016) high GLM standardised CPUE values (and biomass survey index values) at the island which were not initially anticipated, suggest that ...

The significance of morphological variation in the finch species on Gough, Inaccessible and Nightingale Islands, South Atlantic Ocean

Journal of Zoology, 1978
Uni‐ and multivariate analyses were made of nine morphological characters on three species of finches Nesospiza acunhae (Inaccessible, Nightingale), N. wilkinsi (Nightingale) and Rowettia goughensis (Gough). The results of the univariate analysis were used to test four predictions about morphological changes with altered competitive backgrounds.

Recommendations on rock lobster TACs for Tristan and nightingale islands for the 2018/19 season

2018
OMPs have recently been accepted as the basis to recommend TACs for Tristan and Nightingale islands. The application of the OMPs together with the most recent standardized CPUE data result in the following TACs: The OMP for Tristan sets the TAC for 2018 at 120 MT. (No change from 2017.) The OMP for Nightingale sets the TAC for 2018 at 83 MT.

Preliminary data for the stock assessments of lobster fisheries around Inaccessible, Gough and Nightingale islands

2008
This document presents the catch and nominal catch per unit effort (CPUE) data available for the lobster (Jasus tristani) fisheries on the outer islands (Inaccessible, Gough and Nightingale). Data sources, calculation of the CPUE indicies and changes to the fishery that may impact consistency of the CPUE time series are also briefly described.

Effect of the 2011 oil and soya spill events on rock lobster yields at Inaccessible and Nightingale islands

2011
Assessing the effects of the oil and soya spills resulting from the OLIVA incident at Nightingale on the lobster fisheries at the Tristan group of islands is difficult for a number of reasons: 1. the quantification of the impact of the oil spill on settlement and juvenile mortality is not straightforward, both at Nightingale and at Inaccessible islands
